My review of The Dark Is Rising
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham
After Atlas by Emma Newman
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
Kraken Wakes had some similarity to Wyndham's book I'd read off the group shelf, The Day of the Triffids with another existential threat to humanity. It felt timely in that it shows how society might react to a global crisis (not always in the best ways!) & also had some cli-fi elements which felt ahead of their time for a novel from the 1950's,
After Atlas felt pretty different from Planetfall so it didn't feel like a typical book 2 of a series in that sense. The connection between the two that resonated the most for me were the skill Newman has of portraying the inner thoughts/neuroses of the narrators. Also some interesting thoughts on where technology/society might be heading.
Atomic Habits is non-fiction self-help type stuff, but has a lot of insight into how our brains work & how both best to life hack ourselves towards a better version of ourselves & better awareness of how the world is trying to hack into these predilections as well.
Now to decide what to read in 2023! And what goal to set.

The Assassins of Thasalon

Sounds lovely :)

It has been a lovely series thus far, and people tell me Assassins is one of the best of them, so I'm looking forward to it.
Thanks for a great year of reading! See you in the 2023 thread:

Anyhoo, while waiting for the last two Vorkosigan books to show up, I decided to read David Brin's sundiver. I read Startide Rising a long time ago in high school or college, and I read it's sequel Uplift War, but missed on sundiver. I figure, I'll read this, then re-read startide, and hopefully somewhere I'll get to read Cryonburn and then Gentleman Jole...
