ABANDONED. Fantasy about a small country fighting off an empire of sorts

I read the book in 2007 however it wasn't new so it was probably published in the late 90's. Probably.

The story was about a royal family, the father was a powerful warlock. The daughter is also magic but is jealous of of the attention that her younger brother gets. The story is about their small country being under siege.

The son was weak at birth which makes him walk with a limp. He leaves to a desert country for reinforments and receives special training. He comes back in time to save his people with an army of treants I think. He also may have had a special sword.

This book was maybe in a series but I never read the earlier one so I don't know.
