Darn it!!! I forgot all about World Book Day and I had my 2 grandsons here.

We were keeping up with Baker Policy Day in Honor of Sgt Daniel Baker, which is my grandsons Uncle, which was April 23 as well. We took doughnuts to the local police & sheriff's dept on Friday. Yesterday, we were keeping up with the random acts of kindness and other activities that were going on : )

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh, that's so nice, Robin! Sounds like you had a nice day with your grandsons doing kind things. :) I love that.

message 157: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I missed World Bood Day, too. But that's all right because I think of books everyday--LOL.

I didn't know you could take treats to the local authorities because of the Covid. Good for you, Robin!

Thanks : ) Now that they are getting older we are trying to get them actively involved.

Thanks Groovy!! I like your way of thinking lol I think of books everyday too : ) Yes, we have done it every year since Daniel's death. So far, to my knowledge, nobody has said anything about it : ) The boxes are sealed from the doughnut shop and placed in bags so that may help.

Kristie | 5928 comments Happy Star Wars Day! May the Fourth be with you! 😄

It is also Bike to School Day, Bird Day, and Renewal Day. The only one I am celebrating is Renewal Day. On Renewal Day we keep things fresh and bring the spark back. I am going to get my hair done and it is my anniversary, so celebrating that. :)

Renewal Day: https://holidayinsights.com/moreholid...

message 160: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee LOL--cute pun, Kristie.

As far as Renewal Day, I need to pull my Bike out and renew my relationship with it. I've already renewed a magazine subscription, and I'm having a new floor put in this month, so it seems I'm doing good in that area.

Happy Anniversary, Kristie. It's so nice when families get together and celebrate something special. Eat a piece of cake for me:)

Oh...Star Wars. I love the 70's classic ones. I just can't get into the new ones. Not a fan.

message 161: by Karin (new)

Karin Oh, my gosh, I completely forgot to say May the fourth be with you today! I have to send an email to one of my piano students right away before I forget (he loves puns and Star Wars and of course we've said this before since I have been teaching him for over 10 years).

Groovy Lee It's National Mental Health Month. I'm glad there's no longer a stigma to mental health. Most of us are touched by it in some way.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Groovy wrote: "It's National Mental Health Month. I'm glad there's no longer a stigma to mental health. Most of us are touched by it in some way."

Seems like I did see that some where Groovy, and forgot where on top of forgetting it is this month. No kidding about the stigma to mental health. I also agree that we are all touched by it in some way. That's why we need to continually build each other up because we don't know how severe somebody else is being affected as it's easily hidden sometimes.

message 165: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I remember when I was a teenager and got therapy help for some of the issues I was dealing with my sister told me that she didn't need therapy she felt it took a stronger person to just work out your issues on your own. So in her round about way she was letting me know I was a "weaker" person for seeking the help I felt I needed at the time.

I'm glad that times have progressed now and mental health is discussed more openly and people are not shamed for seeking the help they need to be healthy.

message 166: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I agree, Robin. That phrase, "you never know what goes on behind closed doors" is so true. Someone can be a very cheerful person in a crowd, but behind closed doors they could be suffering from the pain of mental illness in so many ways. You're right, we need to build one another up.

JoJo, I'm glad you realize that you're not a weak person for seeking help. Because of the family life I had to deal with, depression, anxiety, and panic attacks were my closeted companions. Thank God I reached out for help, or I would literally be a basket case curled up in a corner somewhere. I can now handle life with so much strength and determination. So good for you. Thank goodness for progress, right?

message 167: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I'm glad you decided to still get the help you needed, JoJo. I'm sure you thought twice after your sister's comments. It's so strange that people think they are stronger when they don't get therapy. Honestly, it takes a strong person to be vulnerable and allow someone to help them. That's not always easy to do. Plus, people also end up being even stronger post therapy because they've worked through their issues and behaviors that no longer serve them and have new tools they can use in the future.

message 168: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I forgot to mention--it's National Let's Make A Deal Day.

message 169: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Groovy wrote: "I forgot to mention--it's National Let's Make A Deal Day."

So what's the deal? You failed to leave one so I don't know if I should say Deal or NO deal!!! LOL

message 170: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Sorry, Robin. I thought everyone would know what I meant. It's referring to the popular daytime game show, "Let's Make A Deal", which is my favorite. They had a big primetime showing last night, along with "The Price Is Right", which I also love.

message 171: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I think she was making a joke, Groovy. That's why she said that she didn't know if she should day Deal or No Deal. Isn't that what they say on that show?

message 172: by Groovy (last edited Jun 05, 2022 03:06PM) (new)

Groovy Lee Oooh, I had to reread it. Now I get it. Take curtain number 2--LOL!

message 173: by Robin (Saturndoo) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Curtain #2 must have Groovy behind it throwing water balloons at me or something--I'll take that deal : P

LOL I was making a joke. But no worries Groovy : ) Sometimes I have to reread or ask the speaker to repeat cause I'm slow to jokes as well.

My kids love it cause sometimes 5-10 mins later I randomly start laughing and they are like"Mom, are you just now getting it?" UMMM yeah, and they get a good laugh and have fun making fun of me. I love it though cause they are having laughs at my expense lol

message 174: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments That's too funny, Robin! :)

I think it's easy to miss jokes when it's in a forum like this because there's no intonation or visual cues, etc.

message 175: by JoJo_theDodo (new)

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I used like the game show with the Whammys. "Big Money, No Whammys!!" : )

Glad you got a good laugh Kristie LOL Exactly!! When texting I try to use emojis and maybe I should do that here too but I forget. Sometimes the emojis help set the mood for the speaker LOL

OHHH my mom watches that show on Game Show Network. I saw here watching it not to long ago.

message 178: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I do that with emojis too, Robin. :)

Today is Hot Air Balloon Day, National Frozen Yogurt Day, and World Environment Day.

That game show comes on every Sunday here. It's fun.

And I do apologize for my slowness. I'm usually quick at getting jokes. But I appreciate your patience:)

I would love to take a ride in a Hot Air Balloon with a cup of frozen yogurt and admiring the beauty of the landscape below.

Cool! I used to live in a city where there was a lot of hot air ballooning because there were enough days with just the right amount of wind. I loved seeing them--there'd be tons of them, and not just during the annual festival. Here is a photo of a few over the river that goes through Ottawa, ON. Even when it wasn't the festival you could see a dozen or more moving along over the city on a sunny day. Sadly I didn't know anyone who had one.

Tomorrow is Smile Power Day! Another day that I will enjoy. :)

message 184: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Smile Power Day sounds so positive. If the world would smile more, there'd be less conflict.

message 185: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I would be very afraid to go on a hot air balloon Kristie and oh that stinks Kristie and I’ve never seen them Kristie and I never heard of both of those holidays Kristie and I agree with you Groovy

I wish I had been here sooner! When I was growing up--and this will date me, although it was reruns, one of my friends used to call me Smiling Gonzales (I smiled a LOT before moving to this part of New England where people not only don't smile much but most don't trust people who smile a lot), and it came from the old cartoon film--from when our mothers were growing up--Speedy Gonzales.

message 188: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I definitely remember Speedy Gonzales, Karin! Keep smiling!

message 189: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I remember him, too.

message 190: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments Who’s Speedy Gonzales?

message 191: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee He's way before your time, Christine. He's a cartoon character from the old Bugs Bunny classic shows. A tiny, Mexican mouse with a distinct accent who can run very fast from dangerous characters trying to catch him for food.
