Kristie | 5928 comments Interesting, Karin! I think maybe a child said flutterby and someone thought it was cute and started the rumor because it fits so well. lol I love the word. I may use it too!

Also, thanks for the link to the info about butterflies. The goal was to learn something new about them, so that was a perfect add.

Groovy Lee It's National Sleep Day. I don't know why it would be since we all celebrate it every single day!

Perhaps it's because not everyone sleeps well--insomniacs, people with sleep apnea, etc.

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Today is World Storytelling Day and Proposal Day!!!

I wasn't an active participant in either one LOL No diamond ring placed upon my finger nor did I do any kind of storytelling.

message 110: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments lol, Robin! I propose that we do some quick storytelling. ;)

I have an inner timer. And because of that, I have to take an hour's nap every day. My body won't let me function through the day otherwise.

Thank-you, Kristie. This turned out to be a very fun thread.

Count me in on the quick storytelling celebration:) No proposals for me.

It is also National Puppy Day. I don't need a holiday to snuggle with my pup, but I will give her an extra snuggle today. :)

Groovy Lee Among a few other things, today is National Cocktail Day. I wish I was a cocktail drinker so I could skip through the day forgetting my problems. But unfortunately, I'm just a big tea drinker.

Ding Dong Dang It!!! I missed this one totally. Although I wasn't feeling very young Tuesday so that didn't work out well for me. I was a bit under the weather so I did Goof off a bit by staying in bed as much as possible and read : )

I don't need a National Chip and Dip Day to enjoy my favorite dip, which is Purity Party Dip. It's so yummmy.

My puppy is going to be 12 this year and he is about 75 lbs. He gets lots of snuggles and royal treatment daily : )

Not partaking in this either. I'm not a cocktail drinker either unless it's the juice off of a can of fruit cocktail. Does that count LOL

It would be nice to skip through the day(s) forgetting our problems, but that's what my books are for. They take me into another world : )

Clinking my tea glass to yours yelling "CHEERS" Groovy

Thieryn | 62 comments The below is going to make you question my sanity, but I assure you I am of sound mind!

Growing up, my mom was a huge Coca-Cola fan. Like, addict-level consumption. As such, there was never enough of it available for me to have a full glass, so I used to top it up with... I kid you not... no-pupl no-sugar orange juice. I know it sounds yucky, but I swear it didn't taste bad. Yes the color was a questionable brown, so I preferred it in mugs to avoid drawing unfortunate parallels, but I did like the flavor. So if that counts as a cocktail, that would be my go-to (and virgin Pina Coladas).

Well I don't see where that is any different than the different flavors of Coke that they pre-make now. Or even, the Coke flavor station dispensers where you choose your soda and what additional flavor syrups you want to add. Both of my sons were managers at Zaxby's and they had the coke Flavor Stations. Most of the time my "cocktail" of choice was Coke with a hint of lime and vanilla OR Mello-Yello with a dash of peach.

I remember as a kid we would get what was called a suicide. It was a dash of every type of soda that was available in the soda dispenser. Weird color, yes but it seemed to always turn out good. Or at least we thought it did. We willingly drank it LOL

I'm not much of a Coke drinker, but LOVE Pepsi. I am curious how Pepsi and OJ would taste : )

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Today is:
Make Up Your Own Holiday Day It can be anything...a person, phrase, thing, food. Just whatever you want to celebrate. This day always falls on March 26 every year.

National Spinach Day

Live Long and Prosper Day stems from Dr. Spock and his many vulcan sayings on Star Trek. The man who created this day suggests eating a healthier diet, exercise, Reading , relaxing, volunteering, and saving money.

With that being said, I can't think of a single thing I want to celebrate LOL Any other time I could. GEESH. I didn't know there was a National Spinach Day. I'm probably an odd bird but I like spinach, raw or cooked. When I eat it, my muscles magically appear just like Popeye : ) lol I was never a big Star Trek fan but thankfully we are already participating by reading : )

Cool. I'm waiting until I can use my learned lingo for a certain day in Sept. I have a brother born on that day, so know about that one.

Spinach Day--is Popeye mentioned anywhere? I'm not sure how many people know who he is, but he was a cartoon character in a canned spinach (ick--fresh only, please!) ad back when my parents were growing up that became a regular cartoon character. The song lyrics had "I'm strong to the finish/'Cause I eat my spinach" in them.

I don't recall if he was mentioned any where. But when I saw that it was a National Day, Popeye was the first thing that popped up in my mind besides the fact that most people don't like spinach lol I grew up in the generation where we ate what was put on our plate and Popeye was the encouragement to get kids to eat spinach. I liked it then and still do now. We watched Popeye every Saturday morning as well. In fact, Popeye is still on the can of that brand of spinach. I noticed it the other day when I was buying canned spinach : )

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) Today is:

National Joe Day
So if you want to change your name to Joe for the day you can LOL

Oscar Night
I will be reading my books and not watching the Oscars.

Spanish Paella Day
I didn't know what Paella is, but it's a rice and saffron dish. It looks yummy though.

Mother's Day in Ireland
Happy Mother's Day to my Irish friends!!!

National Scribble Day
If my 2 yr old and 4 yr old grandsons were here today, we would have the coloring books and crayons out doing lots and lots of scribbling LOL

Groovy Lee It's National Doctor's Day...

I'd like to thank some great doctors I had earlier in my years. If it weren't for them, I would not be here today. Sometimes we don't think about how important doctors and their specialties are until we need them.

Haha, that's what we've been calling it too. I didn't watch the Oscars either, but I've seen the slap. There is no avoiding it! It was very bizarre and uncalled for. It's unfortunate that his behavior took so much attention away from the women that were hosting too.

I would really like to take a walk in the park today and put some books in the little free library there, but I hesitate to go outside because of the high pollen and my allergies are so bad right now.

You're welcome, Christine. Feel free to add any that you'd like.

message 138: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I couldn't agree more, Kristie. His bad action took the spotlight from a lot of firsts that night. And it seems the more time passes, the more people are getting incensed about it. Chris Rock was even apologizing during the afterparty because as he stated, that was supposed to be the winners' night.

But as I've noticed over the years, Will Smith craves attention by being the loudest in the room, and the most dramatic. I've lost so much respect for him.

Yes, I read right through the Oscars and the slap. My oldest son came in my room the next day and asked if I heard/seen anything about. Nope, what are you talking about? So he showed me. OMG!!! What are people thinking these days? What happened to communicating with others about our likes/dislikes and differences?A talk between them could have resolved the issue, possibly with a public apology if needed. Instead so many have resorted to all forms of violence. So, so sad.

message 140: by Robin (Saturndoo) (last edited Mar 31, 2022 08:24PM) (new)

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I agree Groovy!!! I appreciate all of my Doctors and what they do to help me.

Well I did and didn't participate in those two holidays. We had bad storms and high winds here on Take A Walk in the Park day. So physically I didn't participate. Now, if you count me reading books and catching up on my challenges as a "walk in the park" LOL then I participated : )

I did control my time and got some books organized, challenges updated and reading done. I had some challenges I had to have books completed by today. I think I got them all completed. I AM IN CONTROL YIPPPEEEEE!!!! That's about all I have control over LOL

message 142: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I remember when we were in high school. We would April Fool one another all day long. It was so silly. I don't participate in it either. I'm too old to think an April Fool's trick is funny anymore-LOL!

I just realized--it's April already...

Robin (Saturndoo) (robinsaturndoo) I didn't participate in April Fool's Day either. I remember those days Groovy. I'm not sure how old you are, but at 50 I think I've heard them all by now and don't think the trick are funny anymore either LOL.

I don't even think of April 1st being April Fool's day anymore Kristie. It's just another day LOL

I will share a true April Fool's day story with you all though:
On April 1st 1991, I bought my first car. I was working the grave yard shift at the local hospital. On Friday September 13 1991 I was on my home from work at 7 am, a block from the hospital where I worked, with my paycheck in my pocket when a car ran the red light(he made a left hand turn in front of me) and I hit him and totaled my car. During rush hour traffic, I had no options. April Fool's Day/Friday the 13 th coincidence or no? LOL

Karin I loathe April Fool's Day and had to keep reminding my son that even though his are harmless, to not make any to me (he did one little one after a long day of being on campus. He's a great kid--no bias at all on my part ;) )--so I let him off easily.

LOL that's cute--sisters in age : )

I got hurt but the other driver didn't. I had facial cuts, bruises and a messed up left wrist. Nothing really bad, but bad enough. He was at the hospital with his wife and they both were super nice. He had a bruise from the seat belt. After he got checked out and was released they came by room to make sure I was ok and asked if I needed anything, He apologized and admitted to me and the police that the accident was his fault. To this day I still remember his name LOL

Groovy Lee It's WORLD HEALTH DAY!

It's said that only 25% of post-covid people have returned to a life of normalcy. And 50% are still being mentally effected in a negative way.

I'm in both of those percentages. I rarely go out anymore. Even though I did everything right, my daughter and I still got Covid. And I can' risk getting it again. I have bronchitis. And my lungs are still recovering 3 months later.

And seeing others, especially children, suffering from it is disheartening. We've lost some friends to it. So yeah, it's affected me mentally.
