It is also Ground Hog Day, which I do not like anymore because of poor Punxsutawney Phil. They surround his home with lights and cameras and people. He sees his shadow 9 out of 10 times...well of course he does! I'd run back to bed too. Poor Phil.
Here's some Groundhog Day trivia for you: https://holidayinsights.com/holiday-f...

If Candlemas be fair and bright,
Winter has another flight.
If Candlemas brings clouds and rain,
Winter will not come again.

Thats cool, Kristie. I couldn't figure out the water dynamics in that particular form. Acrylics and oils are easier for me.

When my grandson was staying with us when the schools first closed for Covid, we were participating in his art classes online so we ended up trying a few different things. One of his projects was watercolors. We just used the kids trays for those, but it was fun to try to get the colors to do what you wanted them to.

But he does get fed very well for his participation.
Have fun at your watercolor classes, Kristie.
And I agree, Christine, I think crocheting is art in a different way.

It is also Kite Flying Day. This must be a holiday for our Australian friends! I think it is far too cold here for this activity in February. I hope someone gets to celebrate this one. Seems like a fun way to spend some time.

Awww! I have two kitties. They are black and white tuxedo and their names are Otis and Otto. Anyone else have kitties?

We have a variety of pets. We have three dogs - an 11 year old shih tzu mix, a 5 year old whippet / daschund mix, and a 1 year old Shepard / lab mix. Plus, we have the 7 year old cat. We are fortunate that being all different sizes and ages, plus cats & dogs, that they all get along.
Our mistake was getting a big puppy after the small dogs. It is much easier to do in reverse. We had to teach the puppy very quickly to be gentle with the others because she was bigger than them at only a few months (maybe 3 months?) old.
Groovy, the puppies are super cute and lovable, but they are a lot of work too. Just like babies. You want them to stay small forever, but it is so much easier once they are a little older.

It is also National Celery Month! Who knew celery had its own month?
There are quite a few holidays celebrated today. It is Mardi Gras / Fat Tuesday, which can be a big celebration for many people. Is anyone celebrating this year?
It is also National Pig Day, Peace Corps Day, Peanut Butter Lovers' Day (Yum!), Plan a Solo Vacation Day, and World Compliment Day. I managed to participate in Peanut Butter Lovers' Day and World Compliment Day before I knew I was celebrating!

I guess I celebrate National Craft Month all year long with my love of crocheting. And celery? Don't get me started...

Yes, celery (the only way I liked it, and of course better with raisins
Yes, apples
Other things:
As a teen when I could eat as many calories as I wanted (not fair, but I was tall and growing like crazy) I invented a peanut butter, alfalfa sprouts and walnut sandwich. Word got out and it ended up on the menu of a restaurant later that school year (no credit and I couldn't care less, I was just excited that others I told about it liked it.
Cheese. Yes, you read that right. When I first saw someone eat it with cheese I was appalled, but I still had a good metabolism and I wasn't a snacker. I started eating peanut butter, cheese, raisin and sprout sandwiches.
Once I got pregnant and had kids, I became more of a "normal" women with size, weight and how much I can eat. Then I became allergic to many more foods :(

This is very true. And to be honest, I still have a decent metabolism for my age, but I have to be careful how much I eat. I use a scale and weigh out what I eat. I have many allergies, etc, and almost everything I eat is unprocessed so I do this.
Now I am learning to cook for my husband who is prediabetic and has to lose weight--he's not even big! He is packing extra weight that he put on in the past 10 years or so, but not that much compared to some of our friends who are healthy. It was a shock to both of us, so now I'm buying sugar free bread, Fibre One English muffins, sugar free yogurt, cooking new recipes, etc.

I just looked it up and have a lot more respect for this holiday--it's not what I thought.
This is a South African Holiday from an event in 1956 where 20,000 women of all races did a protest in Pretoria--here's more about it https://nationaltoday.com/national-wo...

Thanks for looking this up and sharing, Karin.

And I think it's crush-a-can day, too. Not sure.

A couple of interesting butterfly facts to celebrate:
🦋 The original name for Butterfly was Flutterby.
🦋 Butterflies taste with their feet.

Sadly, as much as I have always loved the idea of the name originally having been flutterby, it might be true, but it might not be (still, it's a cool word!!):

Yes, I find etymology interesting now and then :). Sometimes it explains why we have homonyms (different spellings but the same sound) and homophones (same spelling but radically different meanings).
