I had to stop reading Mo Hayder. Her books are just too violent for me.

Hello Jannelies! Yes, I absolutely loved the story. I didn't know there was a movie! I'm going to check it out.
I finished Tolstoy's novella which argues for moral elevation through abstinence. Not really a crime novel, but then again it is a story about a man who kills his wife.
The Kreutzer Sonata by Leo Tolstoy
Rating: 4 stars

and I started reading a French psychological thriller, which I understand inspired a movie by some fellow named Hitchcock
Vertigo by Boileau-Narcejac
Now starting THE BERLIN EXCHANGE by Joseph Kanon, his newest stand-alone espionage thriller set in 1963 at the peak of the Cold War.
continuing on with book 8 in the DCI Gilchrist series by T.F. Muir: Dead Catch which is again set in and around St. Andrews, Scotland. I'm really liking these
I am one of many fans of pre-teen sleuth and poisons expert Flavia de Luce, whose chemistry skills are legendary. The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag is the second in the series by Alan Bradley, and his depiction of 1950s rural England is a treat. Love it!
4.5~5★ My review of . . . the Hangman's Bag
I finished my 70th "book" but as three were novellas and a couple were short stories or short story collections of less than 100 pages, my count is down in the 60s somewhere

sorry, I'm a speed reader (natural, not taught), so I devour books like they were chocolate.
I'm reading some non fiction: Dynastic, Bombastic, Fantastic: Reggie, Rollie, Catfish, and Charlie Finley’s Swingin’ A’s by Jason Turbow

I finished "Santa Cruise" by Mary Higgins Clark this morning, but it's not nearly as good as the previous book "The Christmas Thief".
Linda wrote: "Its certainly interesting Nancy. In fact I decided to give it a try because you recommended it."
Well, you are a brave soul. I read waaaay out of the box in most cases, and this one was definitely out of the box.

Jannelies - I did enjoy "Birdman" even though I was able to guess some of it. I'm enjoying "Dark Matter" very much so far.
On the final stretch of Tomb of Sand. It's really very, very good, but I'm having to take it slow because it's so very different. When I'm finished with it, I'll need a run of smaller books to get back into my reading groove again.

by Parnell HallStanley Hastings #5, OK to read as a standalone. I generally enjoy the Stan Hastings comic mysteries but this one is below average. The slow 1st half of the book is an obvious setup to the puzzle and the second half is OK but marred by some obvious coincidences. I go to a large building complex and just happen to park next to the guy I'm looking for. Just OK, 2 stars.
I've just finished Tomb of Sand, one of the best books I've read this year. Not for everyone, requiring very slow reading and a LOT of patience, but holy moly -- definitely for me. I'm also very much in awe of Daisy Rockwell's translating efforts in this novel.
I read Her Frozen Cry by Carolyn Arnold It is a fast paced police procedural. Both my wife and I enjoy this series. My 4 star review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I enjoy the Amazon Original Stories, which are quick reads written by well-known authors and give readers a sample of their talent and style. Jeffery Deaver recently contributed Scheme, which has an unexpected (of course) twist at the end.
3★ My review of Scheme
We know him by his stage name Harry Houdini, which means MAGIC! This is another colourful introduction by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara to a little person who realised their Big Dreams. Excellent!
5★ My review of Houdini with several illustrations

Dueling Christines!
Started reading Paradais by Fernanda Melchor. I was going to save it for next week while we're away, but I couldn't help myself.

:) :) :)
Now starting MIDNIGHT ATLANTA by Thomas Mullen, the third book in his Darktown series featuring reporter Tommy Smith and police officer Lucius Boggs.
On Wings of Eagles. Usually a writer of thriller fictions, Ken Follett turned his attention to recounting the true story of rescuing two American executives falsely imprisoned in Iran during its revolution about forty years ago.My review - www.Goodreads.com/review/show/4684282660
I just finished "Dark Matter" by Blake Crouch. It was fantastic. It's about the multiverse. What would you do if you could change places with another version of yourself? Good stuff. I'm currently reading "The Kind Worth Killing" by Peter Swanson. So far so good!
The Dirty South
by John ConnollyCharlie Parker #18, OK to read as a standalone. This story takes us back early in Parker's history as he hunts the killer of young Black women in a terrible small town in Arkansas. This is a very strong and compelling work and, although it's not a horror story by any means, it may stay with you and I don't recommend finishing it just before trying to sleep. 5 stars, highest recommendation.
