Audio Books, Podcasts and YouTube ~ 2022
It is so wonderful that you had that reading time together. I wish more parents would do that. That experience created a lifetime reader in me but my childhood was practically in the stone age!
Ditto, Rachel. Unfortunately my folks didn’t read to us but one sibling and i are readers. The other two, not at all.
For those who listen to podcasts, I just saw that Book of the Month has a new podcast. It's free. Virtual Book Tour is the name of the podcast.
"Since we've never been ones to keep interesting new books to ourselves, we're kicking off a series of conversations with Book of the Month authors about God only knows what. Recorded at Book of the Month headquarters on West 27th St. in front of a live audience of raucous employees! Give us your ears and we'll give you a look into the minds of writers we admire and a treasure trove of anecdotes, wisdom, and fun.
Listen to candid Q&As with your favorite authors now!
."
Thanks again for the tip about The Virtual Book Tour. They seem to have some very interesting interviews.
You're very welcome, Rachel. The New York Times also has a good podcast.
It's called, The Book Review.
By the Book is another you might want to check out.
BBC Books is also good.
Whatever you use to get your podcasts (I have Spotify) put the word Books in there and you will get more ideas.
Alias Reader those are great recommendations. Two book podcasts I also enjoy listening to as well are NPR Book of the Day and What Should I Read Next? hosted by Anne Bogel in case anyone would like to check them out too.
Thanks for the recommendations, Leahnes ! I love listening to podcasts. Today I was listening to
Gretchen Rubin's Happier podcast. I am working my way to the present day.
I am still in 2017 ! One episode that I listened to this week she discussed how to read more books.
Every Sunday night, she posts a photo on her Facebook Page of all the books she read that week.

Recently I listened to her newest book All the Good Left Undone and would not have expected her to be so humorous. Fun.

Audiobook growth continuesFor a 10th straight year, the Audio Publishers Association’s annual sales survey has revealed a double-digit increase in audiobook sales. The 28 member companies reporting to the APA had revenue gains of 25% in 2021 bringing the estimated industry total to $1.6 billion in sales last year. This 2021 jump bested a sales increase of 12% in 2020.

I have a question. Many times when I reply on other group posts when I hit reply, my comment or question does not go under where I commented. Does anyone else have this issue or know what I am doing wrong? Any help greatly appreciated.
If you just hit reply, it will take the top few lines of the post and put it in italics. If you want to comment on a specific part of a post, you have to copy/paste that into the reply between the HTML italics. (see some html is ok for how to use HTML. you can see this on top of the box you are typing in.)
I hope I am understanding your question correctly and this helps.
Rachel wrote: "I have a question. Many times when I reply on other group posts when I hit reply, my comment or question does not go under where I commented. If so, what you describe would happen. The key, as i was slow to figure out, is to hit reply first, then see if the quote or excerpt is what you wanted. Then, under that write your comments. This messed me up for several months when i first came to GoodReads.
Thanks to everyone who offered help to me.Yes you got to the heart of the problem. When I hit reply it frequently goes to another comment not the one I am replying to.
Does that make it clearer?

I am trying this out.

Is this what you mean?

I finished listening to Ready Player Two, narrated by Will Wheaton. I really liked it. It made a good follow-up to Ready Player One, which was also a lot of fun. Both these books are steeped in '80s culture and geekiness. It's a wonderful trip to the past references and icons. For example, in Ready Player Two, there's an entire planet dedicated to Prince, all versions of Prince, all things Prince. It brought out a smile to see all these Princes and Prince items in one place.

Often i've felt i missed the '80s because i had two children by then, one of whom was particularly challenging. I seldom had time to watch the news, let alone keep up with trends. However, when i read Ready Player One, i was surprised how much had, indeed, snuck into my memory. I was tickled to realize that. :-)
Deb, I put off reading Ready Player One because I heard it had so many '80s references and I don't remember a lot of '80s icons and events. But, like you, I was surprised at how much I actually did know and I enjoyed the book immensely. Ready Player Two continues in that same vein. Even the things I didn't know or remember were fun.
Petra wrote: "Ready Player Two continues in that same vein. Even the things I didn't know or remember were fun...."I appreciate the encouragement in reading it, Petra. The first was fun, that's for certain.
Oh I loved Ready Player One so much but wasn’t into the sequel as much, unfortunately. I read instead of listened so I may have to go back and listen to them both. I’m currently listening to Where the Crawdads Sing. I had a hard time getting into this one at the beginning but it’s starting to hold my attention a bit better at Chapter 18 😳.
Stephanie, it's funny you mention Crawdads. It's the last novel i truly 100% loved, without reservation. And that was in March of 2020. I need another one of those! :-)
madrano wrote: "Stephanie, it's funny you mention Crawdads. It's the last novel i truly 100% loved, without reservation. And that was in March of 2020. Frequently I am in the minority in reading groups.
Rachel, that's what keeps conversation going, imo. I was surprised by how much i liked it. As i recall, Alias read it and her review intrigued me enough to try.
I have not read the book, but my mother has. When I told her that many reviewers said it required some suspension of disbelief she agreed.

Btw, we read those books together, reading to one another through his 9th grade. It was a special time. I haven’t read one since but he has continued. Sweet times. Oddly, imo, son still reads, not listens, to them. He’s one i would have presumed would latch onto audiobooks but not so.
