Kevin Pham | 21 comments The Kill Order by James Dashner is the prequel to the Maze Runner series. You’re supposed to read this one after reading the other three though. In this book, we learn about what life was like when the Sun Flares had scorched the Earth. The story revolves around Mark, Trina, Alec, and Lana. We learned that after the flares had hit, people had begun setting up societies in the places that weren’t as extremely affected. They had a village with wooden homes, etc. Everything was going fine, but then one day, a bunch of Bergs flew over and began shooting darts at the people in the village, infecting them with diseases, which ultimately killed them and begin rapidly spreading. Alec and Mark manage to hijack a Berg and take it down. They manage to return back to the village and learn that it has been destroyed and that most of their friends were killed. Now, the group is trying to find the Berg’s headquarters to find a cure, and hopefully survive this disease.

I thought this book was pretty alright. Since it occurred where I used to live, it was nice to imagine while I was reading everything that was going on. In general, I thought that it was a pretty interesting story. It helped tell us more lore about W.I.C.K.E.D., the Flare, and how everything came to be. It was kind of like, closing the loose ends of the Maze Runner Series. But I honestly didn’t feel this book like the other ones. It didn’t hit as hard. But it was pretty alright though.
