Prompt: Garlic
Garlic bread.
This food
so worthy of the utmost appreciation.
French bread,
sliced perfectly even,
coated evenly with
freshly made
garlic
butter.
Put it in the oven.
Until the bread and butter
have
become
one.
The aroma,
the taste,
the sight,
beautiful.
This food
so worthy of the utmost appreciation.

Prompt: Smoke
I'm awoken by the smell of burnt rubber.
Is it?
Am I dreaming?
I stand up.
Run over to the door.
I go to open the door knob.
A sharp pain goes to my hand.
It's hot.
Fire.
Blaring
flames.
I opened the door.
Smoke filled my room.
I dropped to the floor.
I crawled.
And crawled.
And crawled.
It got
hotter
and
hotter
and
hotter.
As I moved
closer
and
closer
to the flames.
The smoke
flooded my
lungs.
I couldn't see
the door
the windows
the only thing I saw
was the
flashing
red
lights.
I crawled
and
crawled to the
door
that I couldn't
see.
The smoke
flooded my
lungs.
I couldn't
breathe.
I stopped.
I'm tired.
Oh look,
the couch is right there.
It looks so soft.
I'm just going to lay there.
For just
one
minute.
I am
the
smoke.

No prompt.
I fell down the
rabbit
hole
in
geometry
that
one
day.
You made me
laugh
and
mad
at the
same
time.
My heart
dropped
when I found out about
her.
When you talk about her.
I
wish
I
could
fast
forward.
What would've happened
if I
knew
you
before
you
fell
in
love
with
her?
I am your
outlet
for all your
rage.
When she talks,
you
drop
everything
and
listen.
She drags you
through
so
much,
but you go
running
back
to
her
anyways.
I am there for you, but
will
you
be
there
for
me?
Or will
I always
just be
that
one
girl
from
geometry?

Prompt: Body
Dear body,
You have given me
strength and courage.
You were never the problem.
There is nothing
wrong with
you.
I don't want to
hide
who you are.
I am not ashamed of you.
You were never
broken.
You are
perfect
just the way
you are.
I'm sorry I:
--didn't feed you
--tugged at you constantly
--begged to get rid of you
I'm sorry I
treated you horribly.
I love you,
Me.

Prompt: Loss
I lost you when I was 5.
It was on Sunday, May 28.
Grandma and I were walking down the sidewalk to the house.
It had been the most amazing weekend ever.
I was so excited to tell you all about it.
There were at least 10 cars here.
I thought we were having a party.
Boy, was I wrong.
I walked in and saw everyone crying.
"What?" I looked around the room, looking for you, "Is he at work?" I asked.
"Come here." said Mom.
I went.
"He's gone." She said, crying.
"No he isn't." I had said simply. It was impossible.
You couldn't just be 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦.
I ran back inside and all throughout the house.
"Where are you?"
"Why are you hiding from me?"
You didn't come out.
You weren't hiding.
By your funeral, I was still unconvinced that you were gone.
That I had lost you.
After a while, I turned angry towards you.
"𝘏𝘰𝘸 could you have left me?"
"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 did I do wrong?"
"𝘞𝘩𝘺?"
I couldn't look at you in your casket.
I blocked out everything about the funeral.
What color shirt were you wearing?
How many people were there?
Over the years, I came up with other questions.
Where would we be today?
Would you and Mom be divorced?
Would we be in a different state?
Would we be close?
Would you have been a good father?
Would I have siblings?
There are so many questions I want the answer to, but I know I'm never going to get them.
It's been 11 years since I lost you.
You were only 40 years old.
You had so much life left in you.
Why can't I remember much?
Why can't I remember enough?
I've watched the videos, looked at the pictures.
When you were my age, you looked just like I do now.
I miss you. I miss you so much.
How am I going to get through the rest of my life without you?
Can I talk to you? For just five minutes? Please?
It's been 11 years since I lost you.
I love you.
