Trim Challenge 2022 – Community and Announcement Thread
My #9 is Flights by Olga TokarczukFrom the reviews people either love or hate this one. We'll see if I get through it!
My #9 is The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne which was an impulse buy because of the cover
in the NYRB Classics reissue.
Oops, totally forgot that I had put An American Marriage on my Trim list and started it yesterday. I haven't gotten very far so I may pause for the BR. It will be a great one to discuss! Also it has to fit the monthly tag, very character driven so far.@BnB, I'm one of your buddies. Would you be good to start at the beginning of the month?
I also recently read The Lincoln Highway and look forward to that discussion.

My #9 choices are Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb or It Ended Badly: Thirteen of the Worst Breakups in History by Jennifer Wright.... however, so much of my current trim list matches "character-driven" I might switch something out. I must think on it!Edit: Oh, turns out Assassin's Apprentice is already tagged as character-driven! Hmmmm, interesting. I'll have to think on whether or not I want to add more fantasy to my TBR right now...
I have a choice of 9) Oryx and Crake/The Porpoise/Trojan Odyssey
Start with Oryx and Crake because for once in my life (first time ever I think) it fits the monthly tag, then see how time goes.
Heather Reads Books wrote: "My #9 choices are Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb or It Ended Badly: Thirteen of the Worst Breakups in History by Jennifer Wright.... however, so much of my current..."Heather, just to let you know-Assassins Apprentice is not filled with magic, and the magic system is very different from most. It is a wonderful story, written by an exceptional author. I think you will love it.
My #9 is Benny Rose, the Cannibal King by Hailey Piper and this is one of my novella options so I am sure to finish it in May!

My #9 is The Lincoln Highway making me part of the buddy read! So excited to read Towles again as his writing has never disappointed!
Don’t hold American Marriage for me, Jen and BnB - I’ve got a ton on at work and home, so I’m just chipping at Trim in my own time

That’s really kind but I might not get to it at all this month so don’t worry about spoilers on my account - it’s more of a faff for you
Finished my April trim book: Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. A challenging read, but it still earned 5 stars from me. Review is here!@Joanne - Thanks for the head's up on Assassin's Apprentice. I have heard it's very good and am looking forward to it!
Finished the 3rd of my March options Plague Ship: Oregon Files #5 but have only completed 2 of 3 for Jan and 1 for each other month. Still puts 7 less books on my TRIM list so that's a bonus and having a choice of 3 each month has meant I'm more likely to complete at least 1 whatever mood I'm in.

Meli wrote: "I finished my #20, Notes of a Crocodile, so I am 4 for 4! I can't believe it! Review here."
Woot! Congratulations, Meli! I know how you feel - I got behind both last year and the year before, and I'm so pleased I've been keeping up with mine too.
I started it one night, and burned through 40 pages pretty quick so I figured there was no excuse to stop. It's a short book at just over 200 pages.
I would like to announce to everyone that Jen K is our Trim Picker for June, and will announce the next number right after Anita announces the tag. The numbers we have previously used are:
9, 10, 11, 18, and 20.
I am also, just for clarity's sake, going to edit these five numbers out of the Buddy Reads, so if Jen, or anyone wants to use these as some sort of guide, they can. Happy Reading Everyone!

@Amy, I really appreciate that you keep reminding me!!! It's been crazy lately and the visuals are key. :)
I should be good to pick on the 22nd and will take a look at the Buddy Reads again. I've really enjoyed the ones I participated in. So far I am 5 out of 5 this year.
Jen K, you have done awesome! I look forward to getting the chance to read something with you sometime.
Amy wrote: "Jen K, you have done awesome! I look forward to getting the chance to read something with you sometime."@Amy, I'm sure we will find a one sometime soon. Looking forward to it!
Finished my #9 for May: Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression – and the Unexpected Solutions by Johann Hari - 2* - My Review
I am 5 for 5 this year! Finished my #9, Benny Rose, the Cannibal King and review is linked below. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Congrats to all for the Trim accomplishments!Announcing that the Trim number for June will be.......... #8!
Hope everyone has great options for for the month.
My number #8 is either The Priory of the Orange Tree or Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age. I'm leaning toward the latter because it's much shorter and I'm drowning in chonkers lately! Also I think I might be able to make it work for Walk Down History Lane... Tho, I am still running behind and haven't gotten a hold of my #9 yet, but soon, hopefully... soon...
Heather Reads Books wrote: "My number #8 is either The Priory of the Orange Tree or Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age. I'm leaning toward the latter because it's much shorter ..."The Priory of the Orange Tree reads very fast, Heather.
