Hope you feel better very soon! It seems to be very variable for people.

We're still masking in shopping centres etc. Particularly given that the new Omicron BA2 is even more infectious. Work for me, has never stopped being masked.

Yes! And what a terrific young woman. Very much herself, and happy in her own skin.

My son and grandkids were there and they loved it. Buddy became a bit overwhelmed though when he was swamped and couldn't get out.

The atmosphere on the night was incredible.

I watched the recording of the game when we got home, and yes looking at Buddy in the crowd towards the end, he looked a little worried, until the security guard reached him to assist him and get him of the field.

Yes that was good. I was imagining someone falling in the crush and getting badly hurt. Especially a child as there were a lot on the ground.

My brother in law and nephew were at the game. They didn’t run on the ground but I loved the spontaneity of the event and the fact that nothing went wrong. Buddy is absolutely awesome.

The AFL were extremely lucky that nobody got hurt, so many people.

But the thrill of the moment was awesome.

Epic indeed, Kylie, Very thankful no-one was hurt. Amazing scenes. Sadly not at the game. Used to be at all home games but with health issues, it is too much these days, so had to be content with watching and yelling at the tv. Buddy’s achievement was great and how well all our guys played in that game. Stars everywhere,
What a blessing rain held off till the last few minutes of the last quarter.

Jacinta looked worried for him too. With good reason. Something all AFL fans won’t forget in a hurry.

Trish L | 139 comments Hi, I asked this question a while back and got the answer, but of course forgot the exact details and cannot turn up the original posts. As I forget which discussion I posted to. Call it Covid Brain.
Question: kindle has a give away of translated books ...in April?....what dates and what is the name if the promotion. I do hope I have not missed it again this year. Thanks everyone.

Hi Trish,
I think the giveaway you're referring to is to celebrate World Book Day, which fell in mid-April in 2021. This link provides details: https://ebookfriendly.com/free-kindle... References on Amazon indicate that there is a 2022 event, falling on 23 April 2022, but the links aren't active yet and the listed books aren't free. https://www.amazon.com.au/b?ie=UTF8&a...
Perhaps something will happen later this week or next?
Thanks for the heads-up!

Carolyn | 9837 comments If anyone knows of any good resources for finding simple ebooks in languages other than English I'd be interested. I'm two years into a German course so probably reading around middle school level. Amazon.com has a few books of short stories and some crime novels (which are likely too advanced for me) and I'm currently stumbling my way through 'Alice in Wunderland.' Unfortunately since Amazon only lets you buy ebooks from one site I can't buy from the German site.
Next time I'm in the city I will check out Abbeys, but the benefit of ebooks is that I can have the German-English dictionary active on the kindle which saves a lot of time in looking up new words!

I congratulate you on your effort, Carolyn! It's no easy task as a new learner of a language. I tried reading various titles in Italian several years ago - Agatha Christies were good and readily available.

Libby for Libraries Tasmania makes available quite a few books in foreign languages - obviously to meet the needs of migrant and multi-lingual population. There are lots of current books available in German and Spanish, particularly. I wonder if this is also the case in your neck of the woods? There's also a foreign language section at my local Vinnies, with all sorts of offerings! I wonder if Brotherhood books or ebay might also be avenues worth pursuing.

message 192: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1543 comments Book Depository also have a whole German Language section. They're a bit expensive, but at least the postage is free!

Sarah | 1543 comments There are heaps of free German-language books available via Project Gutenberg, but as they're all ex-Copyright, they're probably a bit old-fashioned. This children's book looked interesting:

Thanks Sarah, I hadn't thought of looking there since they do mainly have classics which might be a bit beyond me yet. But the children's book looks good and I could look for more like that.

Was going well, but complicated by another issue, very depressing but we hope an unpleasant procedure on Thursday might resolve some things. Being vague, you don't want TMI in this case...

Not really - my German is pretty basic still which is why I need to read more. I thought there might be a few readers on here who also read in a second language and could help find some resources (besides amazon).
