I guess it shows that no engagement at all is the best policy. Did you block him Carolyn?

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments As I said in the NetGalley post, my reading has taken a big hit the last few days as we've been moving. Tuesday we moved heaps of stuff into our temporary accom, a small AirBnB unit in Crown street Wollongong opposite a construction site. Yesterday Grace came to pack all the breakables, and the they loaded all the bikish stuff DH wanted taken to our warehouse, and delivered that there. Today they packed the rest of the house to go into storage until our unit is ready. Exhausted every night. But the BnB is right near the W'gong branch of our fave Japanese restaurant, Toro Sushiya. Once we are properly settled into the BnB there will be no packing or sorting to do so I intend to read and relax.

No, I will if he becomes a problem, but he seems to have gone quiet.

You must be exhausted Marianne! I can imagine packing up a house that you've lived in for so many years is a massive job. You must be pleased it's finally done and you can relax, at least until you're ready to move in to your brand new home. I hope you won't have to watch too much longer for that.

Thanks, Carolyn, we have been pacing for months, each delay a cloud with a silver lining as we have more time to get stuff packed, but now at the thin edge of the wedge. House practically empty, giving it a bit of a clean tomorrow, and a man is coming to do the times and carpets, but I will just apologise for the dust on the blinds. DH still has things to do in the bike shed, but taking a day off on Sat for his 70th.

I feel for you Marianne. I look around my house sometimes and wonder who will one day have to deal with it all. Hopefully not me;)

My sister is really good about that: she kept getting rid of stuff at mum's while she was napping, which made our job when selling the house a lot less painful. And she regularly declutters with the thought that she doesn't want to burden those left behind.

So glad you're getting to the end of the work in your home. As the others have said, moving after years of living in the same place is daunting! I can imagine how completely exhausted you are by bed time each night!

Dust!!! Places you never get to unless you like moving heavy objects regularly, a blanket of it. The vacuum cleaner is certainly getting a work out!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Around 7am the creatures gather for their day’s activity: the hard-hatted fluoro-shirticus begins its call soon thereafter, beeps and clanks and bangs, but until it employs its favoured instrument, the pile-driver (which far outdoes its only natural rival, the woodpecker), its full throated roar is not heard. It will keep this up until the natural light impedes its activity: an utter joy to all within reach of its song.

right outside our BnB

Carolyn | 9837 comments Oh no! I hope you have some very good sound cancelling earphones!

message 1170: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Perhaps it's like living next to a railway line, it does become background noise. But our first night here there were vehicles reversing and stopping until the early hours, that penetrating grating sound. Even that I could have relegated to background with my brain, but it's the stop/starts that kept me awake. The same reason we couldn't have the aircon on at night: the hum all night wouldn't have bothered me but the unit was adjacent to the bedroom wall, and the on/off would wake me. Anyway, the nights since then have been silent-ish. No grating.
We have a pre-settlement inspection on Aug 19th, so that's a positive.
Prayers and hopes and crossed fingers all gratefully accepted.
We handed over keys yesterday so today, a day off from packing,
I have to dig out some glad rags for DH's 70th birthday dinner.

Useful if you are after a 'red' or 'blue' book I guess! I would have a 'pink' fit if my local bookstore did something like that.

Or you could tell them you're moving into a new apartment and need books that match your décor (or would that just be encouraging them?)

I am intrigued. What do they do with books where the spine is a different colour to the front? And the ones which are a multi coloured and don't favour any particular one? And do they arrange them in shades of colour like pale apricot comes before orange?

Colour is the new sorting technique, youtube tells me. I can't think of a less useful sorting measure myself, but it might help with anyone who wants a rainbow shelf for effect...

message 1197: by PattyMacDotComma (new)

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments It's like a jumble sale where the books are piled randomly in baskets or on a table and you hope for a happy lucky dip! But in a library, where you're probably looking for a book by author, title, or genre, you'd be lost.

Am I right in assuming that the non-fiction is still shelved appropriately, or is all research going to be done by ChatGPT now?
