2022/2023 - Chat about whatever you like: the weather, good stuff, bad stuff, family or pets!
As I said in the NetGalley post, my reading has taken a big hit the last few days as we've been moving. Tuesday we moved heaps of stuff into our temporary accom, a small AirBnB unit in Crown street Wollongong opposite a construction site. Yesterday Grace came to pack all the breakables, and the they loaded all the bikish stuff DH wanted taken to our warehouse, and delivered that there. Today they packed the rest of the house to go into storage until our unit is ready. Exhausted every night. But the BnB is right near the W'gong branch of our fave Japanese restaurant, Toro Sushiya. Once we are properly settled into the BnB there will be no packing or sorting to do so I intend to read and relax.

I can imagine packing up a house that you've lived in for so many years is a massive job. You must be pleased it's finally done and you can relax, at least until you're ready to move in to your brand new home. I hope you won't have to watch too much longer for that.

House practically empty, giving it a bit of a clean tomorrow, and a man is coming to do the times and carpets, but I will just apologise for the dust on the blinds. DH still has things to do in the bike shed, but taking a day off on Sat for his 70th.
I feel for you Marianne. I look around my house sometimes and wonder who will one day have to deal with it all. Hopefully not me;)

And she regularly declutters with the thought that she doesn't want to burden those left behind.

So glad you're getting to the end of the work in your home. As the others have said, moving after years of living in the same place is daunting! I can imagine how completely exhausted you are by bed time each night!

The vacuum cleaner is certainly getting a work out!
Around 7am the creatures gather for their day’s activity: the hard-hatted fluoro-shirticus begins its call soon thereafter, beeps and clanks and bangs, but until it employs its favoured instrument, the pile-driver (which far outdoes its only natural rival, the woodpecker), its full throated roar is not heard. It will keep this up until the natural light impedes its activity: an utter joy to all within reach of its song.
right outside our BnB
Perhaps it's like living next to a railway line, it does become background noise. But our first night here there were vehicles reversing and stopping until the early hours, that penetrating grating sound. Even that I could have relegated to background with my brain, but it's the stop/starts that kept me awake. The same reason we couldn't have the aircon on at night: the hum all night wouldn't have bothered me but the unit was adjacent to the bedroom wall, and the on/off would wake me. Anyway, the nights since then have been silent-ish. No grating. We have a pre-settlement inspection on Aug 19th, so that's a positive.
Prayers and hopes and crossed fingers all gratefully accepted.
We handed over keys yesterday so today, a day off from packing,
I have to dig out some glad rags for DH's 70th birthday dinner.
Sounds fairly positive Marianne!! Have a lovely evening and happy birthday - a special one - to DH :)

Popped into my (now local) Vinnies in Crown St Wollongong after donating plasma to find they had rearranged their book section into colours "because alphabetical order of author names wasn't working". Not working for whom? I asked.

Who on earth decided that!!!!!

I would have a 'pink' fit if my local bookstore did something like that.
Phrynne wrote: "As The Two Ronnies demonstrate it is a ludicrous idea:) Thanks for that Alex!"The one to thank is a friend of mine, north of 70, who combs the internet for comedy threads.

I am intrigued. What do they do with books where the spine is a different colour to the front? And the ones which are a multi coloured and don't favour any particular one? And do they arrange them in shades of colour like pale apricot comes before orange?
Phrynne wrote: "I am intrigued. What do they do with books where the spine is a different colour to the front? And the ones which are a multi coloured and don't favour any particular one? And do they arrange them ..."Spines is all they care about. I can see I'll have to take a picture
Marianne wrote: "Popped into my (now local) Vinnies in Crown St Wollongong after donating plasma to find they had rearranged their book section into colours "because alphabetical order of author names wasn't workin..."Colour is the new sorting technique, youtube tells me. I can't think of a less useful sorting measure myself, but it might help with anyone who wants a rainbow shelf for effect...
Trying to be generous about this, I think it’s possibly something you could do in your own home, where you’re familiar with the books, but it doesn’t translate to retail at all.

It's like a jumble sale where the books are piled randomly in baskets or on a table and you hope for a happy lucky dip! But in a library, where you're probably looking for a book by author, title, or genre, you'd be lost. Am I right in assuming that the non-fiction is still shelved appropriately, or is all research going to be done by ChatGPT now?
Does anyone know or has heard from Bette from the Dandenongs recently? Just realised it is ages since I saw anything of her.

I guess it shows that no engagement at all is the best policy. Did you block him Carolyn?
