Very active 'trolling' by people with nothing better to do 😏

Oh I was wondering why I was getting so many likes (over 180 so far) for this book (Honeybee) I agree with you, Brenda why don’t these people get a life :)
Krystal wrote: "But how strange that it's just these two books! Also not my Jasper Jones one, maybe because I only gave 2 stars?..."Haha, same! Although I rated it a little higher than you, but not high enough to meet their cut-off, so I’m only getting Honeybee likes.
It seems very niche. I’ve never seen this happen in such a targeted way before. I wonder if the author knows about it? 😬

I think if Craig Silvey or Allen & Unwin knew about this I feel sure they wouldn’t be ok with it.

I'm sure they have no idea this is happening. It's hard to work out what someone gets from doing this. I've come across an author making hundreds of fake accounts to like reviews for his books, but I don't know why someone would to go to all this trouble for a respected random /unsuspecting author.
When I thought it was just Honeybee, I wondered if it was because of the subject matter. But if it’s 2 of his books that clearly is not the case. What about Runt? I haven’t read that one yet, so no review to like.

I haven’t had that happen with Runt, just those two books for some reason 🤷🏻♀️

I actually wondered if author or publisher had a hand in it before I realised they were all bots. I'm sure they'd be against it - both seem to have too much integrity to stand for fake likes.

I agree Krystal, it has to be someone else doing it. But why - hard to see what they get out of it.
Very sad to learn of the passing of Gabrielle Williams. I have enjoyed a number of her books and she was very visible in the Melbourne book community, working for the Readings Foundation.
I was wondering if everyone has the new book GR format? I hadn't had it for at least 6 weeks (can't even remember) but now it's gone back. I was getting comfortable. Bummer.
I got the new layout yesterday but not sure if it is the COMPLETE new layout. It still looks the same until you click onto a book and then it goes to the horrible big "open" layout and the awful way to add books to a shelf. I hate it.And I agree that they have taken no notice of our feedback - I'm sure they had more negative feedback than positive but they have gone ahead anyway.

Yep agreed. Not cool, GR!
Just catching up with this conversation and it has solved a big mystery for me around all the 'likes' I got for my Jasper Jones review while I was on holidays. I was completely perplexed! And my email was going nuts :(
Kylie H wrote: "Just catching up with this conversation and it has solved a big mystery for me around all the 'likes' I got for my Jasper Jones review while I was on holidays. I was completely perplexed! And my em..."Yes thankfully it seems to have finally stopped!
Mine was 100 likes (a whole page) for Honeybee.. not including Jasper Jones. 100 private users with no friends. So bizarre. I didn't check as I went as mostly I was only using my phone, didn't check the profiles as the likes were happening.
😆 I flagged 20 just to give GR a heads up and I got 20 emails back, each one with the same auto generated message saying they will look into it. 🤷🏻♀️
Jülie ☼♄ wrote: "😆 I flagged 20 just to give GR a heads up and I got 20 emails back, each one with the same auto generated message saying they will look into it. 🤷🏻♀️"I haven't flagged any since there are so many (just for Honeybee, I only rated but didn't review Jasper Jones). When I've reported bots in the past they didn't do anything, but let us know if you get any follow up and I'll flag them then.
Good job Jools! Getting so many MIGHT mean they'll "look into it". But they've stopped for me anyway, so perhaps they have.
I’ve just seen how the new book page displays spoilers. I thought there was something wrong with my iPad…or my eyes!! Yuck.

I haven't seen that yet Andrea. Which book were you looking at?

Oh I was just looking an at old review of my own, but reading it from lower down on the book page rather than clicking through to the review page. If you can think of one of your own that contains a designated spoiler, you could take a look and see what I mean.

Yeah I spotted that, it's awful!! And not completely efficient, either.
Has the new format got ANYTHING right? Tried to update progress on my current read and it has a paperback format (correct ISBN) showing %. Do the designers actually read books?
I tried to change the edition for one on my to-read list and it was a trial. Why is everything so much harder lolEvery time I think I'm over complaining about the new layout I discover another thing that's been made more difficult!
When I tried to do that Krystal, I ended up deleting the one I'd shelved so I could have the correct one! lol It shouldn't be that difficult! And it shouldn't mean taking a lot more steps than it used to...
I did that too Brenda. I could not find a simple way to change it over so I deleted it and then added it again in the required edition. This is a very user unfriendly layout!!!
Phrynne wrote: "I did that too Brenda. I could not find a simple way to change it over so I deleted it and then added it again in the required edition. This is a very user unfriendly layout!!!"I was struggling with this one too - eventually found out that, if you go on 'Edit My Activity', there is a small 'change edition' option just under the title and author of the book - this takes you to the list of all the editions and you can then 'switch editions'. Hope this helps!

Thanks Kim! And I agree with Phrynne - why make it so user unfriendly???

Then I discovered that, if you search for the book on 'My Books', the last column states 'Edit' and 'view' - 'view' takes you to your review! As you say, unnecessarily complicated!!

That's handy to know Kim, I've also been deleting and re-adding the correct edition!
My problem is remembering where to look next time I need it. The site used to be fairly intuitive before but now it isn't at all. It must be really hard for new users if we're all struggling!
Cannot understand why this book is so expensive. It's a 384 page mystery novel! A Killing of Innocents Deborah Crombie
Readings
Paperback $71.99
Hardback $63.99
Booktopia
Paperback $66.75
Hardback $53.90

As it’s not published just yet, I wonder if this is the practice for situations where the publisher is tardy in setting a price?

I've never heard of this Margot. Only for off the wall old things you can't find, then sellers do what they want. Don't forget Booko.com.au for searching for your best online price, though it sounds like you've already done your homework.

I wonder if it's related to it being large print format, as I couldn't find anything else other than that and audio? It can also be publisher as well; self published/smaller print runs tend to cost more. Since this is a book in a series it's a mystery to me, but perhaps closer to the release date a normal format option will be available for a lower price??
Hello Sydney GoodReaders,As the get together is less than three weeks away, I need definites and maybes to review their status so I can firm up numbers to book the venue.
Also, you can list any books you are bringing to swap/give away.
And don't forget the Mystery Book!

I reckon we have the best library in the state. I had a book on reserve and I was 2nd in the queue of 26, then this morning it was no longer there!
I emailed them, where's my reserve gone?
Soon after, a reply: my reserve had expired on 5th Feb (I hadn't noticed the expiry, so I quickly checked my other reserves), but he had put it back on my reserve list, at #2.
Who could ask for better than that!
