2022/2023 - Chat about whatever you like: the weather, good stuff, bad stuff, family or pets!

Even reading has been an effort these past few days 😞 so I’ve been listening to audio and podcasts instead. So much sneezing and coughing is doing my head in!

On no Julie!!! 😱
Look after yourself and get better quickly. 💐

Oh no! Take good care of yourself Jools, I hope you recover quickly!

Whaaaaat Brenda! A book a day 😳😅 Phew! Well done you.

Prayers that you start to feel better soon Julie.

Well done and congratulations, Brenda.

Congratulations Brenda! You continue to amaze me!

My neighbour's also just had a really bad dose, with no idea where she caught it, so it's definitely still about. I think I'll keep wearing my mask in the shopping centre for a while longer. 😷

Sharon wrote: "Brenda - just curious have you always been a fast reader? Or has your speed increased since being GR?"
I've always been a fast reader Sharon but when the kids were small and at school, my reading was less. While I was working it was less. Now I'm retired I'm able to read much more - yay!! There was a time - before GR - that I often had nothing to read!! Not now!! lol

I've just stopped wearing my mask - except at medical appts etc - and I keep a distance. But I just had my hair cut - first time with no mask, and the stylists didn't have masks on either (nor the other customers)

Thanks All! I’m not feeling very “compos mentes” at the moment so trying not to write things 😆! It’s like that, it has me up and down thinking I’m getting better and then boom, down again…in the space of an hour! Just have to wait it out I guess.
But my DH said the chemist told him this morning that a loooot of people are getting it at the moment! They’re just treating it differently…so take care. 🤷🏻♀️

Amazing challenge, Brenda, congratulations! and still 2 months of the year to go!

Wow, well done!!

I have never stopped wearing a mask. In Victoria Covid cases were up 25% last week.

It actually looks like we might be at the beginning of a new wave of variants, with cases and hospitalisations increasing over the last few weeks.

Any help appreciated. I am at a loss.

Thanks so much for those suggestions Carolyn. I will investigate them.

Well done, Brenda, do you stop reading now until 2023? ;)

So sorry to read this! Hope you are feeling better soon!

Haha! No Marianne - I'd be lost without a book in my hand! Thanks :)

Hopefully you'll also get some other suggestions from people more in touch with what kids are reading these days.

Carolyn's suggestions are great. The Rangers Apprentice series can be read from a younger age than Illuminae, which I think will work better with teenagers.
I'd also suggest Skyward, which is the first in a series by Brandon Sanderson, along with The Rithmatist which is currently the only one of its series.
And also perhaps Tamora Carter: Goblin Queen by Jim C. Hines, which I haven't read, but is also for that age group. I've read his adult stories, and they're great and very readable.

Awestruck. Please send your army of servants up here, so I can attempt to catch up on this year's reads.

Thanks Leonie for adding your suggestions. Will check them out too

Also attended a Wheeler Centre Spring Fling event with Vika and Linda Bull talking about their memoir ‘No Bull’. (Can’t find the link but the ISBN is 9781922848260) They also performed three songs, a real treat!

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes! I’m feeling much better now and feel like I’ve finally turned a corner, those antivax pills work wonders! It’s been a weird trip, the worst part I think was the confusion I felt, nothing made much sense to me for about a week and I couldn’t even focus on my book, couldn’t taste much so now I need to make more chilli oil! 😂 I was practically pouring it onto my food! I have had a negative rat test yesterday but will stay isolated for a few more days to be sure. My DH was amazingly unaffected! 🤗

Glad to hear you're on the mend Jools! I hope your sense of taste returns soon and your love of reading is restored!
