Same here Leonie - mine keeps reminding me that I've missed two annual checkups and I know I need new glasses for close work (either that or I need to buy a magnifying glass!).

New glasses for me too! Got some nice funky frames. Pity the health fund doesn't give much of a rebate though.

I also can't stand GR being used as a friend accumulation site like FB. 1000 friends and 0 books :(

message 555: by Rowan (new)

Rowan MacDonald | 404 comments It's sad that so many use GR for dodgy reasons! I delete around a dozen friend requests per day from such accounts and have almost 100 people blocked.

I even became paranoid my account was being targeted after reviewing a non-fiction book on Russian spies Haha

If I'm experiencing this on here as a male, then I can only imagine the extent of it for female users of the site :(

It's pretty pathetic Rowan - they really need to get a life!!

Rowan MacDonald | 404 comments In brighter news, I made Rob Mills cry (good tears) with my review of his new book, Putting on a Show today.

He just made a beautiful video and post about it to his 80,000 Instagram followers. It's funny to think what a few words on Gooodreads can do.

I'd say the good always outweighs the bad! :)

Well done Rowan, it’s a great review! I saw Rob Mills interviewed about it on TV yesterday, and whereas I previously wouldn’t have given his book a second glance, I’m now thinking I might track it down at some stage.

That's brilliant Rowan! You do write a great review so I can believe it!

message 560: by Rowan (new)

Rowan MacDonald | 404 comments Thank you for your kind words! They mean a lot to me. The past couple of months have been rather challenging and books are my go-to form of escapism, so it's quite nice when a review is acknowledged in such a positive way!

That is wonderful. Like Andrea, not something I would ordinarily consider reading but your review made me interested.

Nadeen I'm not sure if I can post this but it is book related, please delete admin if this post is not allowed 🙂

Hi everyone, We are a group of university students from UTS doing a research project on customer satisfaction of Dymocks stores 📚🎁 If you purchased anything from Dymocks we would be very interested in hearing your insights through the following anonymous survey: https://forms.gle/froZPVecDYohMWvQA

This survey should not take more than 10 minutes of your time and all answers will be kept confidential. We are looking for 100 respondents, so we would appreciate your help filling out a form🙏🏻!

If you know anyone else who shops at Dymocks, we would sincerely appreciate you forwarding the link to them: https://forms.gle/froZPVecDYohMWvQA

Please let me know if you have any questions 🙂

Thank you so much!

Hi Nadeen. If you could create a thread in the Book Related Banter folder for your post it'd be better for you. Your post will get lost in this thread. Thanks.

Thank you, Diana! I think that’s the beauty of Goodreads reviews. They can often make us consider reading a book that we otherwise wouldn’t. This happens to me quite a lot here!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Last night while DH and I were watching the news, the tuner/DVD recorder suddenly just stopped working, lights out, finis.
This morning DH went to pull it out to see if our electronic experts could fix it, to find a massive nest of ants, eggs etc underneath, and obviously inside. Most unexpected!!
Took it in, after dealing with the ants, expert opened it up, removed ants etc and bingo, working again!
That expression of a bug in the system does have a history.

Better ants than cockroaches! They do a lot of damage to the insides of electronic gadgets.

See I'm one of the few people around who actually LIKES bugs and beetles and spiders and crawly things. Not saying I want a nest of ants in my dvd player mind, lol, but yeah I'm one of those who can't move anything out in the garden if it happens to have a nest under it as I don't want to disturb all their hard work, lol.
AND I am currently spending hours catching tadpoles that silly frogs laid in a puddle - moving them load by load into the dam before the sun dries them out.

Carolyn | 9838 comments I noticed today that none of the Netgalley books I had downloaded over the last two weeks had turned up on my kindle, despite all being sent from Netgalley. I tried sending a couple again but they still didn't appear on my kindle. 😱

After a little panic, I eventually figured out the email address on my new kindle (about a year old) had reverted to the kindle address of my previous kindle. 🤷‍♀️

Once I changed the kindle address back to the old one on Netgalley and downloaded again the books all appeared. 🥳

No idea why this happened (Amazon Halloween joke maybe?). Just thought I'd mention it in case this happens to anyone else!

The brain is very good at featuring your inner anxieties in your dreams! I've never seen Jay Kristoff give a talk but I think he'd be very laid back and easy to talk to :)

I have just received an email from Brotherhood Books whose website has temporarily closed due to the flooding in Melbourne of their warehouse.

"The damage to our warehouse was significant. Books and water do not combine well, and we have lost a large amount of stock. Due to this, our website has been temporarily closed."

So sad - exactly as what happened to the library in Lismore earlier in the year :(

That's so lovely, Diana. My kids used to receive vouchers from school, but this seems to have fizzled out. $$ I guess - but sad.
