He's extremely hit or miss for me-- I either love it, or hate it--no in between.

the first book of his that I read was "Choke" - it's excellent.

That was a twisted journey into the unknown! :)

Night Magic: A Novel

Thomas Tryon’s posthumously-published “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” riff took me by surprise, after reading the poor reviews it initially received. I found it enthralling and beautifully written. Apparently the novelist Valerie Martin had a hand in finalizing the manuscript for publication after Tyron’s death; whatever the authorship, it’s a terrific book that should be better known.

Have you read anything else by him? The Deep is really good too.

No that was my first adventure into his mind! lol I have heard that The Deep is really good so that will probably be my next stop for him. My library has all his books so I am on a waiting list at the moment for The Deep. Not sure when I will get but it is looking to be a couple of months. lol

Char, I’m wondering if Earthworm Gods would make a good companion piece to Worms, which I just read and loved. I don’t generally like Keene very much but I might give this a try. Would you call it Lovecraftian?

I've read them all minus The Breach. I have not read any under the author's true name, Craig Davidson.

I guess it could be a companion piece, sure.

Whereas WORMS was quite well written, (at least I thought so), EARTHWORM GODS is more of a creature-feature piece, full of fun. Cthulhu was mentioned as well as a character or two from The Rising, (Ob), but it is not a Lovecraftian type story.

To me Lovecraftian may feature creatures of all kinds, but the focus is usually on the humans that want to help the creatures come through or take over. There is usually a cosmic aspect to the tales, and of course, the signature racism of Lovecraft. None of these things is happening here. Which does not mean that it's not good or fun, because to me, it is both and just what I needed right now.

About to write a review! I had no idea what was happening for most of it (much like Needless Street), but when things start coming together, it's like MAGIC--I wonder if I'll catch more clues in a reread of this one.

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments Does anyone know if there is a list for Kindle Horror Unlimited reads? I signed up for 6 months, and I would like to get my money's worth, but I'm looking for Horror specifically. There is probably a way to find Horror reads on the unlimited sites, but it does not seem to be a subgroup that I can find. Though maybe someone made a list over here. I tried Kindle unlimited Horror, but no happy there.

yeah, the author did a really good job outlining everything in an easily digestible way. it was the first book i'd read on the subject myself, but i'd recommend. :)

The horror subgroup can be found here: "Literature & Fiction" --> "Genre Fiction" --> "Horror"

You can then filter by clicking "Kindle Unlimited Eligible" on the left-hand side

Thank you, and don't I feel like the backwards child as my G'ma used to say. That was so easy. I really need to stop accessing stuff with just my phone. I know I don't get the same screen and limited options, but sometimes I use what is handy, and my phone is always handy!
