Announcement: combine and separate will be temporarily disabled

Hello wonderful Goodreads Librarians, and happy almost-New-Year!

Due to some site maintenance that will be happening, the combine and separate functions will temporarily be unavailable. This will start the afternoon of Thursday, December 30, and continue until mid-day Thursday, January 6 (all times Pacific).

Ok, the switch has been flipped. We'll let you know when we turn them back on. As I mentioned, the plan is for that to happen a week from today. But we will let you know if that changes.

To avoid the off-topic posts (requests for book edits, bug reports, etc.) that have been an issue in similar threads, we are keeping this thread closed. Please start new threads to request edits, and use the contact link for bug reports.

They are now re-enabled. However, to avoid a rush of too many combines after the combine freeze, we currently have the limit for each librarian set to 10/hour. We should be able to raise the rate limit back to normal in a day or two.

Please be aware that for the next 12-24 hours (duration not yet determined), while you will be able to initiate combines, they will not complete. They will be kept queued up until the current round of maintenance is completed.

At that time all the combines queued up overnight will be allowed to complete, one at a time.

Therefore, if you can avoid combines until we announce the maintenance is complete, please do so. If you have recently initiated combines or if you choose to do some during this period, please DO NOT do them over and over when they fail to complete in 15 minutes. It will only take that much longer for the backlog to clear tomorrow if you do so.

Turns out that took considerably less time than expected. Combines are being processed again now.

We do still have the 10/hour limit in place, but hope to raise that soon.

The limit should be raised later today. Please avoid really major combines/merges for another week or so -- Rowling, Shakespeare, Brontes, Dickens, etc. -- but other than that, have at it!
