Jenny | 2346 comments Hi all!
This will be my 5th or 6th Uno, I think? It was my very first team challenge, and it turned me into a challenge junkie.
I always have a little pile of books with color covers that work for Uno just sitting there staring at me wondering why they are not higher on the general reading pile. Not that I anthropomorphize books or anything.

OMG! UNO-time = happy-time! And I cannot wait! :D

I am Apoorv, currently live in Boston, MA and this will be my 6th time playing, starting in 2015! Feels ancient now! :O (It is one of the few team challenges that I have been on the winning team, so it certainly holds a special place. Haha! :P)

Last year, I had an absolute ball captaining the coolest team there was. We had so much fun reading so many different books. Can't wait to see the wonderful folks I get paired with this year! :)

I don't have any specific books that I want to read per say in 2022, but I do hope to finish up and continue on some of the series that I have ongoing, and what better challenge than this to do so. :)

I am already excited, and we haven't even entered 2022.
Thank you for bringing back UNO again this year, UNO Pixie. Let's do this! :D

Denise (drams5) | 711 comments I think I played Uno for the first time in 2019(?) and am looking forward to not needing to refer to a printed list of directions every time I enter a book. I think I've finally got the system down. 😂

message 56: by Frida (new)

Frida (butthenyouread) | 329 comments it really is the most wonderful time of the year! last year was my first UNO, but its already become my favorite part of goodreads. i CANNOT wait!!!

message 57: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Yay, almost time for UNO! I've played for a few years now and UNO is definitely my favorite challenge aside from Wheel.

I am primarily a romance reader (historical, contemporary, suspense, paranormal, I'll take it all). I also read mystery/thrillers a lot and the occasional urban fantasy.

message 58: by Romina (new)

Romina (romii) | 277 comments Hi everyone! Excited to be here, I participated in 2020 and loved it and am back for more! Havent been great at reading throughout the year but now that its summer and I get some free time Im looking forward to removing some books from my TBR!
Cant wait to play!!

Jessica Buzzard | 522 comments Any hints on the theme this year? 👀

message 60: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 570 comments Yay! I don't think I know how to pick books anymore if not in a team challenge. LOL.

Where are the sign ups? If this is it, then I'm in. I've played before and countless other team challenges. It's easier to list what I don't read than what I do read: not big on YA unless it's along the lines of Harry Potter or Eragon, not a big reader of anything religious or self help.

message 61: by Helke (new)

Helke (mogelpackung) | 1389 comments Oh wow UNO time. That is my favourite time of the year. I´ve played before and have been co-captain and captain. Would play as such again. I have payed a lot of other teamchallenges before and love to have a chatty team. Like Mary I don´t like YA / NA and religious books. I also have some problems with historicals when it is mm but love regency romances like the books by Georgette Heyer.

If possible I would like to have F and Janeylou on my team as I convinced them to give UNO a try.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 510 comments 📕 Name: Vicki
📕 Team Challenge experience: I've been addicted to them for years!
📕 Have you joined UNO before? I've been on several UNO teams and loved every single one!
📕 Favourite genres: Historical fiction, romance, sports romance, mystery, thriller, psychological thriller.
📕 Book you can't wait to read in 2022: OMG I definitely will be reading Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover which I pre-purchased back in June. LOL

I also LOVE anything by Colleen HooverBrittainy C. Cherry, Amy Harmon, Jennifer Armentrout, J.A. Redmerski, Tijan and a few others.

Goodreads helped me keep my sanity this past two years, and in particular this year after losing 5 good friends within the past 6 months and my sister in November. I kind of went MIA for the most part this past 4-6 weeks with the exception of a couple challenges because I just needed to after my sister's passing. I also have a planned MIA for most of January and February because I'll be visiting family in Florida, but I will be doing a couple of my favorite challenges and UNO is definitely one of them. Therefore I will join and definitely contribute a lot of books!

I would really love to be on these two people's team, if possible: Apoorv and bamaace83 (if she signs up) :)

I can't wait to meet my team and get started. I have tons of books I want to read (my gr shelfs are overflowing), so I can't really pinpoint what I'm looking forward to the most.

Another thing - the first time I played UNO I was overwhelmed by the description at first, but the team was there to help out and answer all my questions, and it was so much fun. If you communicate with your team, read books, and most importantly enjoy yourself, it's a success!

message 78: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Welcome everyone!

This chat thread is just for chat and we can't monitor it for player/team requests as it becomes too difficult and we will miss things!
If you have a request you can put it in your comment in the sign-up form. We can't always put people in the same team but we do try. You will need to give their goodreads username (not just a first name).
If you already signed up and forgot to add in a comment, Google will let you edit your form if you signed in before you filled it out. If you can't, then you can direct message this account and we will add it in your sign-up for you.

All the info on UNO and the sign up form is here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Thanks all!

JL Roberts (jlroberts) | 216 comments My first UNO challenge was this year and I loved it so much I am definitely looking forward to 2022 UNO!
My favorite genre is Romance and most sub-genre attached to that. Some thrillers and Suspense will get thrown in the mix form time to time. Quite a few books look amazing for 2022 but I also have a TBR pile that I will never finish so it's usually just what ever strikes my fancy at the time.

Nicole B | 119 comments Hi everyone,
I look forward to this every year since my first time a few years back. I get most of my reading done during the winter/spring months and this challenge is always excellent for getting me out of a reading slump. Can't wait for this years one (or rather next years :P)

message 82: by UNO Pixie, Our UNO Helper (new)

UNO Pixie | 1839 comments Tips to prepare for sign up

* Think about how many books you can read in a month.
There is no benefit in UNO to under-estimate because each team has a fixed number of books to read each month. It is best to be as accurate as you can so that your team doesn't finish the month early and then is bored for a week!. Have a look at what you read over the last 3 months, or for previous players what you read over last UNO.

* Do you want to be in a "chatty" team?
Consider your interaction on Goodreads. Do you want to log in at least every other day? If so you may want to select your preference for a "chatty team".
If you can only commit to checking the team once per week, a chatty team is not for you.
If you don't think you can make it onto Goodreads once per week (even if you haven't read anything) then UNO is not for you.

* Set up your UNO Shelf.
This helps your team captains check your books, and is also quite cool later when you want to see what you have read in UNO over the years. Goodreads help explains how to add a new shelf if you haven't done it before here

YOUR USER NAME IS VERY IMPORTANT
every year we have sign-ups that don't get this right. If you do not enter it correctly, we can not find you, which means you won't be placed on a team.

To find your user name:,
1. go to the desktop version of Goodreads. This means use a web browser on your tablet/phone/computer to go to www.goodeads.com
2. (sign in if required) Look at the top right hand side and you will see the far right circle that is your profile picture. Click on it, and then select "profile"
3. What you now see in the URL bar is not www.goodeads.com but instead your profile name. For example, this Pixie account shows www.goodreads.com/user/show/52624155-...
This means my user name is 52624155-uno-pixie
4. In the sign up form you will be asked to enter the number and the name separately (this helps with our formulas and to make sure people enter this information correctly). So my number would be 52624155 and my name would be uno-pixie

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Hi everyone!! I’m Kaley and this will be my… I’m not even sure which Uno this is for me. I want to say my fifth time 🤣

Uno was my first ever team challenge, but I’ve done several more since then! Most recently the Wheel in the NBRC group — and I see several of my recent teammates in this thread already!!

My favorite romance is genre.

For books I'm excited to read… there are a LOT, but I’ll just pick this one:
The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary
My sister bought it for me for Christmas, and since it’s a color cover (looks much more blue in person) I’ll be saving it for Uno!

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 569 comments This will be my fourth? uno. Maybe third. I've lost count. Anyway, I have a quick question. I'm due to start a new job in the beginning of January and I might be able to listen to audiobooks while I work. If this ends up being the case then I would be able to read a lot more than otherwise. If I sign up now, can I change my predicted amount of books later if I put it here or contact a mod? Or would it be easier if I just waited till I'm more sure? I dont really want to risk forgetting to sign up amongst everything else, but I can leave myself a note somewhere or something.

Hi Keely,

I suggest you sign-up with a lower number estimate.

If you end up being able to read more, you can work it out later with your captains and team.

message 94: by Keely (new)

Keely (kiwifruit192) | 569 comments Thank you. I was thinking of doing that anyway. I have some longer books I would like to get off my TBR so if I am able to read more, I could focus more on longer books. Everybody wins that way. I'll sign up at some point over the next couple of days

I believe Lauri was on my team my first year team and I'm starting on my year 7 also. Lauri, hope we get matched up again this year, but looking at the number of teams that might be a long stretch.

I have captained and then co-captained with the infamous Judith the past few times. I don't know how we'll do it without you this year, Judith, but you deserve a break, even if you are gnashing your teeth on the sidelines and have itchy fingers to edit the spreadsheet!

Vicki, my heart goes out to you with all those losses of loved ones in such a short time. I can relate to the loss of a sister. Mine was 13 years older than me, but still way too young. She was a huge reader and inspired me to do the same. It's been 21 years since she's been gone, but thankfully I can still hear her gorgeous laugh in my head just like it was yesterday and it always brings me a smile. My hope for you is that your memories will bring you comfort in time. XO
