She feels the tear fall, knowing that she had thought about Liam every single day and wondered if he knew that. She had tried so hard to mask it, but he, he had to be able to see that right?

"I masked everything. He probably thinks I didn't even care. I screwed around with Chad." she hits her head, feeling so so stupid. "I know we were broken up. I just, a big thing was that he made me feel like a whore. And then as soon as we break up, I act like one."

She looks at Lillian, "I know. I know."
"I love it!" she says, her smile bright.
"Yeah, I've never had it before. It's funny how much better it tastes rolled," she says laughing.

"Okay," she says, content. "Lillian?" she asks, "Is everything okay?"

She knows there's more to the story, but isn't going to push at it. If Jackson was just worried she would've just said she was with Skylar. Great, she thought, just another reason for Jackson to hate me. She gets up with Lillian, leaving a 10 dollar tip, thinking wryly about Liam again.
Skylar looks at Lillian and says, "Thank you for everything. I can support myself if that's why you and Jackson are fighting. I have multiple jobs. I'm not trying to push you away, I'm just saying."

She hung her head, "I can, I know you want to help, and you can, but I can pay for the stay. You guys shouldn't be fighting over your son's ex-girlfriend or whatever I am."

She looks down, feeling bad. Once again, she opened her mouth and her feelings came out in the wrong words. "I know. You're my hypothetical mum." She said, looking at Lillian. "I can pay for it. I want to see you. You're my friend too."

She looks down, "Okay, Lillian." She leans over the console and gets a flashback of a month before how Lillian held her in her arms as she screamed about her step-son, consoling her. Then another one when she leaned over this same console and called her mum. "Don't stop visiting me." She pleaded, I like having you in my life.

She leans into Lillian, not wanting to cry, knowing this isn't goodbye.

"Yeah," she says, "Very soon," she laughs.

Skylar laid on her bed and thought about the day. About Liam. About how slow, slow meant. Did he mean as Lillian suggested like friends and then they see? or dating and just super duper slow? she didn't know and she didn't want to think about it. He seemed happy at least texting, maybe he just had his guard up face-to-face. She thinks all this, and eventually drifts off to sleep, awaiting tomorrow's school day. And, yk, seeing Liam.

The next morning Skylar gets up and gets ready

She looked in the mirror. She looked good. She looked better than she has been looking even in that last week. She brushes her teeth and all that jazz and heads to school, truly happy for the first time in a very long time.

He walks downstairs and makes himself some toast for breakfast. When he finishes the toast he goes back upstairs and brushes his teeth and all that jazz and heads to school.
Walking into school, she immediately sees Liam as if her body magically pinpointed him out of all the students walking around randomly in the halls. She doesn't know what to do, so she starts playing with her hair, unaware on what "slow' means. Was it Lillian's idea? or was it something else? Skylar wants him to walk up to her if they're going to talk at all.

She watched him walk up to her, her heart pounding so loud. He had this look on his face, she couldn't pinpoint it, what it was. "Good morning..." she says, trying not to laugh at the formality of it, "It was so good! I didn't even know the place existed! Like how could I have not. You'll love it..." she looks away, wondering if she shouldn't have said that. She had rambled because she was nervous, so they were back here again, with her playing with her hair, being embarrassed. She looked at him, really looked at him like she had the day before, not knowing if it was okay. As much as he said he was okay, she didn't really believe him. And treating her like they never met? She didn't like it. But she would put up with it for him. She would do this his way if it meant that he would be in her life.

She's still twisting her hair around her finger, worried how he'll react if she says she went with Lillian. But it's not like she's going to lie to him. "Yesterday, at the cafe, we went in your car and I got to school with someone else, so I was, uh, stranded. I called Lillian, we're like friends, I guess, still, even though-" she stops and continues a different train of thought, "She picked me up and didn't want to go home right away, so she took me to that ice cream place, she said she found it on Facebook, I think? I don't know, you said you wanted to go on a date and it looked so pretty I thought-" she doesn't know if she should finish her thought. Might as well, she takes a deep breath, "I thought of you." She stops talking embarrassed over her rambling again, still toying with her hair, her confidence from her clothes, gone, in his presence. She looks down, not sure what to say, how he'll react, but knowing that she misses talking to him.

She smiles at him, seeing his blush. Upon seeing it, she immediately felt her cheeks flame, she doesn't look at him, knowing that her eyes will betray what her soul is feeling. She takes a deep breath, still not at ease, playing with her hair, "Don't worry about it. It's seriously okay." She can tell that he's upset with himself. She forces herself not to touch his arm or some other consoling thing. She looked at him, thinking that he wouldn't be able to read her face anymore, "Yeah, Lillian, she's pretty cool. She's really kept me goin- Sorry, I'm sorry." She said that last part without thinking. Now she was the one going stupidstupidstupidstupidstupid She thinks he'll react badly. Her cheeks flare up again, embarrassed.

"Well, I'm sorry about everything, but in that moment, I was sorry for saying that she was the person that kept me going. It just seemed mean to tell you," she says, ever so softly.

That comment had destroyed her worse than the one in the bathroom. She didn't think that she only wanted pity. She wanted someone who could be there and when he said that he proved he couldn't be there, always dependable. She looked down, not knowing what to say, not knowing what to do. "It's okay. I've forgiven you. I think I forgave you before you even drove away. You said a lot of it in anger. I thought that you didn't mean most of it." Now she won't look at him, her emotions are just too strong, if he sees her eyes, he'll know everything that's racing through her mind. She takes the chance anyways and just locks eyes with him, unable to look away. Waiting to see what's going to happen.

She hated the formality. It made her want to ruin everything and walk away. "I sincerely accept your apology," she said laughing. "It's okay. I promise." She won't be the one to look away from him. It's like they're communicating through their eyes, not a single word being said in their conversation, the real one. The one that says I miss you and I wish that I could go back and fix this and I hate myself for hurting you and... the list goes on.

She decides to tell him, "You don't have to act like you don't know me. You don't have to be so polite," she whispers, still watching him.

Her hearts beating fast, and she doesn't know what to say, "Have you actually been okay? You haven't looked okay." She whispered. She wonders if he can hear her heart. Her hands are shaking so she crosses her arms, acting cold to cover it up.

"Almost all of my "happiness" was fake. I tried. Not for me, but for others. I wasn't happy at all." She wants to stop looking at his eyes but she literally can't, "Wow, college applications. That's cool but like also really scary. I haven't been sleeping that great either."
