Hello everyone and welcome to the 2022 Randomised Reading List challenge there are a few slight rule changes this year following feedback from group members and to encourage those who create a list to read from that list.

New rules :

You will not get any points for generating a list however the first book you read and review from your list will gain you 5 points after that all books are worth 2 points except Wish List Books which give you 3 points.

When claiming points for a wish list book please link to your review.

When requesting a list you can choose the standard format which will include at least 1 wish list book or you can choose all wish lists books or no wish list books.

We have now added the books from the non English versions of the list so if you would like to include another language please specify when requesting your list we have a choice of Norwegian, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Portugese, Romanian, Danish and Russian. You will be allocated 1 book from your chosen language list and this will be counted as a Wish List Book.

Free Swaps

You can swap a book you have already read and reviewed for the group please add link to your review.

You can swap a book not available in a language you can read - please note if you request books from another language in your list the assumption will be you can read that language and you will not be able to swap that book.

If a book on your list becomes a group read during the year you can swap this.

There will be no "paid" for swaps this year.

As usual each book you read will generate you a new book. Reading a Wish List/Non English book will generate you another Wish List/Non English book.

Happy reading.

For those of you who have requested a list on the 2021 thread I will generate you a standard 3 books plus 1 Wish List unless you let me know here by the 28th December 2021

Valerie Brown | 884 comments Could you clarify my understanding this change in the swap rule: 'There will be no "paid" for swaps this year.'

I used to 'pay to swap' for books I couldn't access (for reasons other than language). So, does it mean now, if I can't access a book, I am SOL.?

Not sure what SOL means but yes if you want to swap for any reason other than language or previously read the best thing to do is just read one of the other books on your list which will then generate you a new book and you can just ignore the book you don't want to read.

The idea is to encourage people to actually read books from the list.

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments Cool Cool: Just wondering if we are going with the WL list I made up this year? If so, I was just going to update it to reflect changes since I made it (books read since, the 3 new books on the core list).

Was planning to do it today or tomorrow.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

I have already updated with the new books and believe I have removed those read you can double check :)

We will be using the spreadsheet with the different language tabs I believe your link will take you there.

message 6: by Gail (new)

Gail (gailifer) | 2174 comments I love the new rules and will take a normal 3 + 1 WL - the Wish List must be getting pretty small by now….but will check it after Amanda updates it. Thank you to Amanda and of course, to Book.

One of the list books that doesn't have a group review yet. They can be more difficult to access, but not always.

Thanks for confirming, Book. I did understand the reasoning. I see in past years I have at least one book that I could access, but seeing as it is the randomizer it is possible to end up with zero books that I can access. However, onward and upward and I will still give it a whirl this year.

Tatjana JP | 317 comments Can I have one WL and one non-English list book, please. I have no “other language” preference, so you could also randomize the language?

Hilde (hilded) | 376 comments Hi!
I would like three books from the normal list + one Norwegian (no wish list book). Thanks!

Oh Perfect! yeah I'll just double check then. Thanks a bunch book. Will def be wanting a full WL list for myself again.

message 13: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 225 comments I'll take a standard list (one WL book), thanks!

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Please assign me all 4 regular English books, no wish list books.

Thanks !

message 15: by Diane (last edited Dec 27, 2021 12:45PM) (new)

Diane | 2044 comments I will definitely go with the Non-English! I can no longer use the WL books as there are only 4 remaining for me (if it is updated). It is also close to impossible for me to use the non-WL books at this point.

If I have to choose one language, I will go with French, since I can easily read them, or Spanish (whichever list is longest). I would prefer French, Spanish, & Dutch lists combined, if that is possible.

I am concerned about not being able to swap out books you can't obtain, especially when using the non-English lists, as many of them are long out-of-print. It is still very difficult to get ILL's these days.

message 16: by Diane (new)

Diane | 2044 comments Never mind. I just saw there can only be one non-English book per list. I don't think I will be able to make this work this year. Sorry!

If you want all non English books that can be arranged not an issue, I can do you a combined selection of the languages you mentioned if that is what you want :)

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Here is link to updated list there may be more WL books that you think or not...

Thanks, Book. Are the books in grey the new WL books? If so, I have only read about half of them. If they are the WL books, I will take 2 WL and 2 from the combined French, Spanish, & Dutch lists. If the WL books are the ones currently listed on the bookshelf, I will take all 4 from the non-English lists.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

The ones in grey are the new wish list books I will generate you 2 & 2 :)

Gail (gailifer) | 2174 comments In regards WL for Amanda and the up dating of the list.
There is reviews for The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

and there is a review for The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner by James Hogg under 1001 Review list.

Hope this helps

List updated again :)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG I can only start 3 new topics in one go this is going to take forever LOL

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Anyone know how long I need to wait before I can add new topics?

Can someone add a new topic for The Ambassadors in the all reviews folder for me?

message 27: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 376 comments Book, I think it’s max 3 post per hour. They really should make an exemption for moderators in groups.

Thanks Hilde that is the conclusion I had come to as well. So frustrating when doing something like this.

To anyone who doesn't get a personal list today sorry :(

message 29: by Jamie (new)

Jamie Barringer (Ravenmount) (ravenmount) | 555 comments Would it work for each of us that wants a list to create our own topic that you can just add our randomized lists into as a comment?

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately not as I need to be able to update with new books

message 31: by Leni (new)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 568 comments I'd love a wish list with just regular English list books to begin with. (I can request WL or other language books later in the year, as I read the books generated, right?)

As for updated Wish List, I reviewed Henry of Ofterdingen last year. :)
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'm surprised at some of the Wish List books! I'm sure there are several that have been read by members (two by me), we just haven't remembered to review them. :-/

List done - spreadsheet updated and yes we updated the criteria for our new members at GR so if it doesn't have a review it's a WL

Hello Book. Wondering if you'll be willing to post randomizer lists a bit before Christmas. I am staying in Minnesota until after Christmas and then heading to Florida so would like to know if there are books I should pack or books I should buy before I leave. Thanks for considering this request.

Hi Kristel - I can give it a go let me set up the thread see how many takers we get. I have a lot of hospital appointments me and the hubby this month so time is tight but if I get a head start I can post early for those who tell me early. When before Christmas were you thinking?

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dawn | 1679 comments I have a question about the WL before I commit to what type of randomizer I want: Are we updating the WL to remove anything that gained a review this year or not? (I can do this if no one else has the time since I have spreadsheet access, but also if people don't want to update it yet to leave other people more options, that is cool too).

I think it should be updated at least by the end of this month. I am okay with it being done anytime. I think if someone uses it as a bingo option, no one is going to argue that point.

I plan to leave for Florida, the day after Christmas and I can throw in a last minute book but if you are busy don’t work. I can always wait until I get home. I am only going to be in Florida 4 months so that isn’t ‘t long and I will have plenty reading to keep me busy. It is more important that you have time to take care of your hubby.

Okay cool, I'm going to take a look at what is still un-indexed then.

Hi all - I am dropping hubby at hospital on 19th for his operation he will then have between 1 - 3 nights stay before I pick him up so I will start working on the lists on the 19th and see where I get to. Depends how long I am waiting at the hospital to hear he is OK before leaving as to how much I get done. It will give me something to do other than worrying.
