My 12 is All Quiet On the Western Front
Leni, All Quiet still haunts and I read it years ago… My #12 is The End of the Affair - which promises to be short and not so sweet.

My #12 is The Third Wedding. Which is great since I've been casually attempting intending to read it for years.
My #12 is The Devils. Not looking forward to another Dostoevsky, especially after all the Germans!
My 12 is The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas, by Machado de Assis. Looks like it could be fun!

I agree, Winter's Night is a bit more challenging. But his earlier works like the Cloven Viscount and the Nonexistent Knight are narratively quite inventive and very funny.

July is going past too quickly! I haven't started this month's book yet. But for August it will be Siddhartha. Short but potentially complicated?
My #11 is the Robber Bride by Atwood. I have not read an Atwood in awhile so this should be good, although long.

Hi Leni, I agree that July is going too quickly. I think you will be okay for Siddartha. My husband just read it on a plane ride and he said it wasn't complicated:) Happy reading.

My #11 is The Fall of the House of Usher which will be respite from the doom of Russian writers - perhaps!

My no 6 is Madame Bovary which I have been really looking forward to since I read Flaubert's Parrot by Julian Barnes last year.
My #6 is Mother which I don’t own and can’t remember why I put it on my list. Nevertheless I am sure it is available and it isn’t a long read.
My #6 is Vertigo by Sebald. I've liked his other list books so looking forward to this one.

Thanks Diane, I’m glad to hear you liked it. I like Ghosh’s writing and enjoy books set in India, so I have high hopes of this book.
My 6 is Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig. I hope this will be more congenial than my August book, The Old Devils by Kingsley Amis, which is proving to be a real struggle for me.

William Hurt and Raul Julia. It's a strange one though.
My #6 is Mill on the Floss which I was given as a school prize in 1958 and I am ashamed to say I have never finished. September is the month to finally read it!
My #6 is An Artist of the Floating World. I have read 3 by the author and haven't. been disappointed yet so I'm looking forward this one.
