He looked back, smiling. "Really? Cool." He looked back to the book shelf, deep in thought.
*Alvay turned to Biana*“Umm. No. To be honest.”
Biana grabbed his hand, “What’s wrong?”
Kiara took his hand. "Is something wrong?"

That would explain the fact why the map had no words on them at all, just colors. He color-coded in a way so it'll make as much sense to him as it would to a person that could read.

((called it!))Kiara put down her sandwich. "There is nothing to be ashamed of. Not everyone is taught how to read, but you can still learn. You know what, I'll teach you."
"You will? Reading and writing?...is this a joke?" Corpes looked at her skeptically.
Kiara shook her head. "Of course its not a joke. It won't be easy, but if you would like to learn, I can teach you."
Corpes' eye lit up. "Yes! Please, Kiara, teach me!"
Kiara smiles at his enthusiasm "I'm not sure where to start, but I guess the alphabet is as good a place as any. I just wish I had some paper and a pencil."
"Alpha-what? Uh, I think I can steal some from--I mean, borrow some paper from that one girl."
Kiara looks around the room for something she could write with. "I wonder." She walks over to the window and starts drawing on the fogged up glass.((bear with me, I'm a terrible teacher))
Corpes followed her. "What's up?"
Kiara uses her finger to write out all twenty six letters of the alphabet. "Okay, these are letters. You put letters together to form words." She points to each one in turn and gives him its name.((in reality it would take years for Corpes to learn how to read.))

Corpes nodded along. It would, in fact, take years for him to learn it all, but if he was a five-year-old that had a very little attention span. And he was 15! He survived a great fire! He survived countless foes! And it was Kiara that was teaching him, and he wanted to make her proud.
((I thought he was sixteen?))It took Kiara a while to show him each letter, give the name, the sounds, and to make words with them. It was who knows how many hours later when Corpes was finally able to remember the letters and read small words.

Corpes stared into space, trying to figure out what she was spelling out. "Heh...hah...hah-it? Hat?"
"Exactly! You're doing so well." This went on for some time and pretty soon Corpes was able to read sentences.
At this point, Corpes was getting more tired. "No Sam!" Corpes read very slowly. "I don't want green e-eggs and ham!"

Kiara jumped as if she'd been caught doing something wrong. "What, oh, uh, we can keep going if you'd like."
"Kiara, it's fine!" Corpes smiled and put a hand on her arm. "Even IM beat. And I'm very grateful of you for teaching me!"
Kiara smiled and took his hand. "You're welcome, I'm just so excited that you are leading to read. Once you're ready I can share all my favorite books with you!"
"That'll be great, Kiara! Thank you so much!" Corpes beamed.
Kiara leaned over and hugged him tight.
"I...I can finally spell out my name..." Corpes whispered in wonder.

"I can do that now! K-E-Y-R-A. Keyra!...right?"
Kiara tried to keep her lips together. *I must not laugh, I must not laugh, don't you dare hurt his feelings!* She successfully stopped the giggle. "Actually its spelled like this, K-I-A-R-A."
Corpes was silent for a moment and laughed out of joy. "Oh! So THAT'S how you spell it! K-I-A-R-A! Kiara!"
