Should publishers demand writers to include every race, nationality, trans people, gender, gay, everything under the rainbow on the stories, books instead of quality, content or that even matter

message 2: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) I think not. People should write any darn thing they want, not necessarily complying to the system.

So I think it depends on the context. I don't think there is anything wrong with making new stories in scifi, fantasy and modern day with a diverse cast. But I think already made works should not get diversified. It is jarring when for example the Witcher which is based on polish folklore. Gets a diverse cast and now you no longer know who is who.

Another realm in which diversity has no place is historical dramas. Like Mary queen of scots being black or hector being black. That is the same thing as making Shaka Zulu white and Saladin White.

Ari When I write stories or things like that, I don't really include anything from the LGPTQ(idek if that's right) because I don't fully get all this, so I don't want to offend people.

message 5: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) I agree, Austin.

Sorry.

Agreed. They shouldn't be forced to add that because sometimes it sounds really forced.
Sometimes they use pronouns or other things wrong too, making people offended even though they were just trying to make everyone happy.

message 9: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) I know. It's all confuzzling.

True, but it sounds super forced sometimes and it ruins the book/movie

Book - Dragon I'm going to have quite the time trying to get published when I'm older aren't I.

honestly it feels fascist to me. They need spaces in your minds. you need to think like them.

if you are honest in your writing and not just for the money you should be fine, people will buy your book if you go independent or not

message 14: by Book - Dragon (new)

Book - Dragon I hope so.

I agree depends on the context, you should write anything you want, free mind, be free in your writing, I don't have the problem of diversity cast on movies or books, the issue are people, publishers, bookstores, Hollywood, media, etc, believe that the only way, that if you disagree or have an opinion you are a bad person,

I don't think that diversity in and of itself is a bad thing, considering that God made everyone equal. However, when you place diversity over quality, that's where the problems start. We shouldn't sacrificing goodness, truth, and beauty for a cast with diverse people. That's just messed up.
(I'm very passionate about this lol)

message 17: by Milena (new)

Milena Loves Books❤️ (milenabookish) Denali agree
quality over diversity, always

reality- is that more and more with sacrificing truth over diversity,
people are getting scared to be canceled,

Yes Milena! Honestly if someone cancels me I just glare at them, chuckle, and redo whatever I got canceled for under a different name lol

What I've seen is authors nowadays trying to appease more people, going as far as to include literal porn in their books. Books that aren't even in the erotica genre are sounding like erotica these days. And I know that's not about LGBTQIA+ representation, but there just seems to be a huge amount of moral decline in general, unfortunately.

message 21: by Fortissimo (new)

Fortissimo (kendra_simps) @Lily, I know! People tailor to what they think others will like, and sometimes go way too far.

message 22: by Milena (new)

Milena Loves Books❤️ (milenabookish) the always been in the romance-historical romance authors including detailed sex scenes on the books-yes there are more authors including this kind it writing, thinking that will sell like the used in the covers
but was not ok, is pushing this writing on young adults-teens books
