Oh good, i probably will. Im good at remembering
No, no, no guys. God isn't a conditional God. If you're a Christian, Christianity believes that once you repent and put your trust in Jesus, meaning you're born again (John 3:3), you are saved. Even having one sin makes you not good enough for heaven. But if you accept Jesus rather than rejecting Him, God sees you as Jesus' perfection and not your own faults and wounds.

Sorry, but this topic is really close to my heart. I haven't been super close to anyone who was suicidal, but I did have a casual friend. I looked up to her so much for her strength. She was a Christian and loved Jesus. She fought every single day of her life. She went through more horrible things than most of us could probably even imagine. Her life ended in September, just a few months ago. I don't know the specifics, but I think the pain was too much. I would never, ever say that she didn't try to trust in the Lord and try to heal. She probably fought harder than most of us could fight. But she lost that temporary battle, and I can't see her in hell if she was indeed a true Christian. Remember God is a God of grace and love before He is a God of wrath and punishment. He only punishes when He has to.
I think Job wished for death. Jonah asked for it, too. How can we judge someone when we don't know how much pain they were in? If we did judge like that, we'd be like Job's friends. Most people who suffer from mental illnesses fight every single day. Saying that everyone who ends up dying by suicide is automatically sentenced to hell is like Job's friends saying that Job must've deserved all his family dying, all his work being laid to nothing, and his entire body rotting away. No one asks for depression or for anxiety or for suicidal thoughts. If you point to a verse saying that all people who end their own lives go straight to hell, then I'll shut up. But there is literally no such verse.
Suicide is basically giving up though. Without waiting for God.

So a Christian accidentally kills someone, they're saved tho, so they go to heaven?

Elizabeth, please be careful with the way you say things, okay? I'm not trying to attack you or anything, but I think there's probably people here that suicide has impacted and it's a very sensitive topic.

Ok, but God could have had a great plan for her...she could have started a movement to go against rapists (is that the term?) And helped other women stand up against it. But she decided to kill herself. And im so sorry for your loss.
What about her family? She wasnt thinking about how that would affect you guys, was she?

Let me just say that I used to think mental illness was a joke, like it was fake or something that that people could just snap out of it if they wanted to. And let me just also tell you that I regret with all my heart ever having believed that. If I can tell you one thing, it's this: People who fight mental illnesses are the strongest ones here. With depression, I fight much, much harder every. single. day. than I ever had before.
People used to congratulate me for winning this trophy or that contest or getting this recognition or making that team or whatever. "What hard work you must've put into it!" they would say. And I did! But with depression, I have to fight like hundreds of times harder every day just to get through.
You don't have to understand it fully (and I hope you don't ever have to), but please do try to understand a bit if you can.

I agree that suicide has a bad impact on other people, but you think proclaiming that she's going to hell is going to help her family? They're grieving that she's gone, but how much more would they grieve if she wasn't only gone now, but gone forever?

Yes, I'm sorry. I understand; but thats why suicide is never the answer. Everyone here who has been affected by people killing themselves should 100% be against it, it took a friend, a sister, etc. It took someone they love away!

Okay, so i dont know if they go to hell or not, ive never been dead and met God. But i just think suicide is a bad way to deal with something you don't like. I have had about 5 or so friends who have killed themselves and it has ruined other people's lives.

Also, people who struggle do wait for God. They wait for what seems like eternity. They beg Him and plead with Him and cry themselves to sleep at night. I do believe someone can love God and still die by suicide. Suicide is a split-second decision. People who have survived casting themselves off of the Golden Gate Bridge always say that when they feel their bodies falling and hitting the ice cold water, they want to undo their decision. They say nothing can be as bad as going to die. Not debts, not ruined relationships, not even pain. But not everyone survives suicide attempts. Some of those attempts actually work. Would it seriously be fair to punish a Christian for eternity because of a split-second decision made in a moment of immense pain and pressure and despair??
And who is any of us here on earth to condemn someone to hell? Isn't that God's job?

I agree suicide is never the right answer. I agree with all my heart. No one really wants to commit suicide. I think people only do it when they can't stand not to anymore. They've held back a million times before and tried to make things better a million more. I agree that God had a plan for every one of them and that it's never right to kill anyone, but wouldn't God also understand that? He understood when Job cried out against Him. He understands when we doubt Him. So wouldn't it also make sense to say that He also understands people who did die by suicide?

Yes, it is God's job, which is why i dont know for certain what happens for sure.

He believed in God, but he was quite disobedient sometimes and that led him to bad places. But at one point, he was filled with the Holy Spirit and God anointed him king of Israel. When David didn't kill Saul and forgave him, he began to cry and repented. I think his life was very, very messed up, but I think there's also grace to be found there.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and only God knows where she went. She may have gone to heaven, maybe hell: we don't know. We can only pray for her and hope she went to heaven.

Remember the other Saul killed people before he changed, too. David literally sent the woman he lusted over's husband to die in battle so he could have her. Moses rose up against an Egyptian and killed him from behind. All these men suffered from not obeying God, but I think it would be absolutely absurd to say that God stopped loving them and gave up on them and left them for their sin.

I agree we won't know for sure until we actually get to heaven ourselves. I bet there will be some people in heaven who we didn't expect to be there and some people we totally thought would be there who aren't.
I just really wanted to say, though, that we need to have compassion. Lots and lots of compassion. I know suicide hurts everyone, not just the people who did it, but that's kind of the point. I don't think people who died by suicide "committed" to it. Strong emotions cloud good judgement so I don't think we should say that most suicide victims just "decided" to die one day, like they sat down and methodically thought about the pros and cons of living vs. dying and then sanely decided they were gonna choose death.
That's not how it works. Suicide victims are victims just as much as rape victims are victims.

The gal I knew was also abused. She was raped by her father when she was 12 or so and then she got pregnant and her mother pulled her to an abortion clinic and they forced her to abort because it was incest.

That is so sad!! I hope she is in a better place. It sounds like she deserves it (heaven). I hate the world we live in. It is horrible. Too much death and depression.

I actually would totally do suicide, to get out of this world, but im not gonna do that because it would probably hurt a lot of people. The best i can do is try to help the world be better.

Please Please please don't judge people who have committed suicide or people who are suicidl. you have no clue what has happed to them in there life. My brother committed suicide when i was 9 years old, my sister has tried to kill her self for the last 5 years. I was abused by my sister for 2 and 1/2 years I really don't sleep at all, my Mom and Dad are a mess. I have just started to over come my suicidl thoughts. I do believe that you go to haven if you commit suicide just because you don't repent one sin does not mean you will go to hell.
What if a girl is on her way home from her boyfriends house and she gets in a car accident and dies. and that night she had sex with her boyfriend and she didn't repent her sin's does that mean she will go to hell for not repenting her sin?????

you were just saying that people who commit suicide go to hell because they didn't repent there sin of killing there self.

I do sorta think that. I never said the whole repent stuff, that was added by other people.
I just think it is somewhat cowardly to kill oneself due to depression, etc. God has a plan and committing suicide, taking a problem in your own hands maybe means you do not trust God.
I'm sorry if i offend or make someone sad over this, i was trying to drop that subject, and say the whole thing is up to God, but it seems it has been brought up again.
Also i meant the second car accident after sex scenario. (When i said maybe..dunno its in God's hands)

Hey, Gracel, I'm sure Elizabeth didn't mean anything personally at all <333 I think everyone here has suffered in some way and we're all just trying to make sense of things. Elizabeth did say she doesn't know whether particular people who died by suicide go to heaven or not (and neither do we really, because none of us are God), but the evidence strongly points that suicide doesn't necessarily mean a sentence in hell.
