Mar-Apr Group Read Theme Nominations

I know it's a day or so, but I'm going to be rather busy for the next few days so better early than late!

What theme would you guys like for the next group read (April 15-May 15)?

The theme can be a particular fairy tale or myth or can be something general, (for example like "water creatures".)

I would like to nominate the theme of transformation. There are many types of tales that involve transformation, so it shouldn't be difficult to find nominations.

Shomeret, do you mean "transformation" in the physical sense, such as "shapeshifter", or "lead into gold"? Or transformation as in "one's attitude changed perspective by story's end"?

I mean transformation in the physical sense.

Class. Many fairy tales depict a hero/heroine moving between societal classes, though I'm not sure how easy it will be to find retellings about this theme.

Oh, but this applies to "Beauty and the Beast", "Cinderella", "Bluebeard"... there are so many retellings of those stories, of course. I think social class is a good theme. :)

Virtually all fairy tales show shifting between the classes. Even when the main character is royalty, there's a shift downward before the final upward movement.

After a lot of consideration I have decided to nominate First Nations-Native American as a theme. There are just so many books I'd like to read under this theme!

Either of those are fine. I prefer the myth into reality idea.

But you can probably find that dealing with native american. They have many myths concerning transformation.

I believe the suggestion was from Carole Weave-lane about transformation from and into us/myth into reality. I just suggested you could find that theme in Native American myths also so you might combine the two. Hope that clarifies for you Jalilah.

Ah I see! I somehow missed Caroles' post about myths becoming reality!
I was thinking of Shomerets' suggestion transformation which she confirmed meant physical. I'd rather keep my nomination First Nations/Native American more general as to not limit the choices. I'll have to admit I nominated it for selfish reasons as I've been wanting to read Sacred Wilderness by Susan Power for some time now! I've also been wanting to read a collection of original tales for awhile as well.
