If you thought you knew about the war on drugs from what you've learned so far in life (at least in USA), this book will tell you something very different! Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs by Johann Hari. Highly recommended!
Appetite for America: How Visionary Businessman Fred Harvey Built a Railroad Hospitality Empire That Civilized the Wild West I read this book for a book club discussion. It was not a subject that had interested me - the hospitality industry in the United States from ~1880s ~1960s - but I was glad to have read it. I had never heard of Fred Harvey but, based on what I learned from this book, a lot of the business's practices and attitudes were influential here in my home state of New Mexico.
