Changing the Default Cover Missed Up Buy Links

Your books are set up as per GR standards. If you are on the kindle edition of the book and select BN buy link then it will not work as BN do not carry the kindle editions and vice versa. The books are all combined as required by GR policy
The links only work if the seller actually carries the edition.
The links are customisable by user not by book or author
All your books are set up as per GR Standards, I have gone through them all.You changed the format on a couple of books to be kindle editions when they are paperback editions with ISBN's.
What do I need to do to fix this? I just went to Almost Perfect and changed the format from Kindle to ebook, but the B&N link still doesn't work.
Please do not change anything, the books are set up correctly. The BN link will not work with a kindle edition, BN do not stock kindle books with ASIN's.
the BN link will only work on these editions that BN sells, so these ones with BNID - 294.....

The BN buy link may work on books with ISBN's if BN stock the edition with that ISBN

I'm embarrassed by how clueless I sound in this exchange, because normally I pick this stuff up very quickly. Normally, it's me figuring things out and teaching other authors how to do it, which is why I wrote The Ebook Revolution Survival Guide for Authors back in 2011. (I've taken it off sale because the world of indie publishing changes so fast, I'd have to be constantly updating it.) I'm also normally the one being invited to give workshops at writing conferences on indie publishing, marketing, and effective social networking. So I'm surprised that I'm just not getting this one thing.Maybe I'm shooting for the wrong thing, but I'd like to make it so that when GR users do a search with my name they'll see separate listing for: Old MM paperback, ebook (available as a mobi for Kindle and an epub at all other retailers), the new POD paperback, and the audio.
I apologize for my cluelessness, but hope you can help me.
Julie
when users do a search for a book the edition that is displayed is either, 1) the most popular shelved book or 2) the default edition that has been set by the author if it has been set.GR policy is to combine all editions of a given work even out of print editions. So you will not see a separate set of listings for the new and old editions
You can set the default edition for each work using the instructions in link in your first message
Okay, that makes sense. I'm finally getting it. And I know I must be driving you crazy, so I apologized, but I'm still concerned that not all of the buy links work. Just to clarify, when I searched for the correct listing, I used ISBNs not ASINs. Here's what I'm seeing on my computer:
Almost Perfect
• First "get a copy" button is for Amazon. That works.
• For "other retailers" BN doesn't work.
• iBooks isn't showing up as an option.
• Kobo works.
• Audible goes to a page that does have Almost Perfect, but my AP is third down on the page. There's a different AP at the top. Here's a link directly to my AP: http://www.audible.com/pd/Romance/Alm...
Just Perfect
• First "get a copy" is for BN on my computer, but it's Amazon on my husband's computer. The BN buy link doesn't work on either of our computers.
• Amazon works fine.
• iBooks says not available in US store.
• Kobo works
• Audible works.
Too Perfect
• First "get a copy" is Amazon, and that works.
• BN does not work.
• iBooks says item not available.
• Kobo works.
• Audible works.
What needs to be done to get all the buying options working for each title?
I appreciate your patience and help. As soon as I get all this down, hopefully I can do the rest of my books on my own.
Which edition of the book are you selecting the links from? Please link to the GR edition you are using.
Here are the links:Almost Perfect: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Just Perfect: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Too Perfect: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Almost perfect link = the buy buttons will only work for the Amazon buy links. For BN to work you need to select the edition below and use the BN buy link
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Works with both BN and Amazon because they both stock the book with that ISBN
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Just Perfect, the links works with amazon but not BN because BN do not stock that edition with the ISBNFor the BN link to work you need to select
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Too Perfect, that link works for amazon beacause amazon stocks that edition with the ISBN, it will not work with BN beacuse BN do not stock that edition with ISBN.You need to select the link below and use the BN buy link
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
But when I check those links, the Amazon buy link doesn't work. Neither does the iBooks. Surely there has to be a way to have all the buy links work.
You need to look at the format of the book edition page you are on.If a Nook book with ISBN13 starting with 294 (this is a BNID), then the BN links with work when using the BN link, the amazon buy link will not be because amazon do not use BNID
If a Kindle Edition with ASIN, then the amazon buy link will work, but the BN buy link will not since BN do not stock Kindle Editions with ASIN's
If the edition is a paperback with ISBN, then the links will only work if the bookseller stocks the edition with the ISBN associated with the book.
Just Perfect - Audiable Edition - B00GB3GKCW - doing a search on the audiable UK / US sites shows that this ASIN does not exist so the buy links will not find it. It will search by title and then display all the books with that title - only book with that title, appears first in the list Almost Perfect - There does not appear to be an ASIn B00GB3GM3Y assigned on audiable, so the buy links do a search on title, and displays all the books with that title. There are other books with this title, search display on 3rd party site is not controlled by GR.
Too Perfect - again no ASIN on audiable - does a search by title, this book is the only book with this title so it appears first in the list
Julie wrote: "But when I check those links, the Amazon buy link doesn't work. Neither does the iBooks. Surely there has to be a way to have all the buy links work."The search for the stores is by ISBN/ASIN. Users will switch to the edition that interests them and use their own buy links. For instance, I have a Kindle, so I will never be looking to purchase a Kobo edition of a book.
So, you're saying the reader controls which buy links will work when they are viewing the page? How? I'm an iBooks and Kindle buyer.
yes, in msg four I said"The links are customisable by user not by book or author"
Each person chooses their own links to suit their buying needs

But ran into problems. When I searched Goodreads to find the right editions, I couldn’t get them to come up unless I went to Amazon and grabbed the ISBN. When I searched with that, I got the right GR listing, and chose it as the default for that title. Now, when I go to that listing, the “Get it from Amazon” option works, but the other retailer options don’t.
The other thing I noticed is that the series name doesn't appear in the title of Books 2 & 3.
I’m also still confused about how to be sure that the ebook, POD edition, and audiobooks are all separate. At one point, I was on a page that showed all listing for each title and had an option to "combine," but I can't figure out how to find that page again. Help!
