Dagny,
This was my second attempt to read Jar City. The first time I just abandoned it, but I was in the right mood to read it this time. It's very dark, with a very dark detective. I usually don't go for Scandinavian mysteries, because they are so dark and depressing. I guess I was in a pretty upbeat mood when I read it this time so I could handle it better, lol.

I recently tried the next book in this series and had to abandon it. It was even darker and more depressing! The detective finds his pregnant junkie daughter lying in a pool of blood. There are flashbacks to a woman who is being physically and verbally abused and these scenes are written in minute, sickening detail. I just couldn’t submit myself to this anymore. And to think this book won a Golden Dagger award!
