This is the thread where you can submit a task idea for the 50 Point Task contest. The thread is now open for submissions and will close at Midnight Eastern time on January 5. Voting will start the next day, January 6 and will close at the end of the day on January 12. If the moderators determine that the vote is close, a 3-day runoff poll will be held. The person whose idea gets the most votes will host the 50 point task for the Winter Challenge.

The 50 point task will require:
1. Only 3 options. These options may not include more than 2 "sub options" - 6 total in the task.
2. One book per option.
3. Three books totaling at least 750 pages. Your task idea may require a higher page threshold but this must be disclosed in your entry.
4. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
5. Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used.
6. No “free choice” options will be allowed. This is a challenge, so tasks that have no element of challenge do not fit the purpose.
7. A task must be accessible to the majority of players, i.e. not limited to a specific format, edition, publisher, etc. and reviewable by the moderators.

Anyone eligible* to design a task may submit an idea for a task that follows the general guidelines above. Your idea should be a sketch that may be developed with the moderators.

* To be eligible to create a task, the player’s profile must be set up to accept Goodreads messages, and they must not have a task in the current challenge. Only one task per person per challenge.

The group will vote to determine the 50 point task. All ideas that fit the general guidelines will be included in a poll. The poll winner will develop their idea with the moderators to refine their task. The final task may differ from the original idea submission. The task will be posted as close to the midpoint as reasonably possible. The task creator will monitor and answer questions in the help thread.

Please include your Readerboard name and a title for your task. The entries will be listed by Readerboard name and task title in the poll. Please include only one task idea entry per post.

PLEASE DO NOT comment on people's entries in this thread - this is for submissions only - you will be able to comment when voting begins. Comments in this thread will be deleted.

TraceyL | 1069 comments 50.1 - TraceyL's Task: Advent Calendar

Advent calendars are a popular way to count down the days until Christmas, from December 1st to 24th. For this task, I've created an advent calendar image where each day represents a different book genre.

This is a 3 book challenge. The total page count for all books must be at least 750 pages. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used. Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used.

Go RollADie.net and roll a 24 sided die 3 times. Record your rolls. Using the calendar below, read one book for each roll with the main page genre that matches the number you rolled. The genre may be standalone or embedded.

If you roll the same number more than once, you can choose to keep that roll (which would mean you read multiple books from the same genre) or disregard that roll and try again.

Required: List your rolls when you post.

Dee (austhokie) | 8946 comments Army-Navy Game

December 11, 2021 marked the 122 time that Army and Navy had met in a football. While the other 364 days out of the year, we are one team, one fight - on this day, all bets are off. Now, I'm in the Navy, so it only seems right that they won this year and thus I want to make a challenge about it.

For this task you will read 3 books. Page count must exceed 750pgs. All books must be by single authors.

Book A - pick 1 sub-option
Option 1 - Go Navy - read a book where all the letters of GONAVY can be found in the title (excluding subtitle)
Option 2 - Sink Army - read a book where all the lettes of SINKARMY can be found in the title (excluding subtitle)

Book B - pick 1 sub-option
Option 1 - Navy Wins - Read a book FIRST published in a year that Navy won the game
Option 2 - Army Wins - Read a book FIRST published in a year Army won the game
Use the following link at reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army%E2... (scroll down to section label game result)

Book C
Read a book of at least three words in the title, where the first letter of each word can be found in ONE TEAM ONE FIGHT

50.1 - M*A*S*H - 50 years Later

One of the most memorable situation comedies of the 70's and 80's debuted in 1972. Based on Richard Hooker's book, M*A*S*H - A Novel About Three Army Doctors, M*A*S*H took an irreverent view of war as it mixed comedy and drama within a 30 minute time slot.

This is a 3 book challenge. The total page count for all books must be at least 750 pages. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used. Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used. Read 1 book for each option.

Option 1: M*A*S*H featured Surgeons Franklin Benjamin "Hawkeye" Pierce and "Trapper" John McIntyre. Read a book where one of the main characters goes by a nickname that is not derived from their first or middle name. When posting, identify the main character's nickname as well as their real name.

Option 2: M*A*S*H stands for mobile army surgical hospital. Read a book with a title of at least three words where the first letter of each word is found in "mobile army surgical hospital".

Option 3: The series won many awards for the actors as well as the writers of the series. It was well known for clever commentary on the war as it presented as a comedy but had many profound dramatic moments such as the episode "Point of View" that was told through the patient's eyes. Read a novel whose MPG is both comedy/humour and war.

Dee (austhokie) | 8946 comments 50.1 Betty White

Unfortunately, we said goodbye to comedian and actress Betty White on Dec 31, 2021. She was just 17 days shy of her 100th birthday and from reading my facebook and twitter feeds, there are lots of memories being shared.

For this task, you'll read 3 books one from each option. Total page count must exceed 750pgs.

1. Golden Girls.
Betty White was most recognized for her role as Rose Nyland on the Golden Girls. A role that she starred in, along with Estelle Getty (as Sophia Petrillo), Bea Arthur (as Dorothy Zbornak) and Rue McClanahan (as Blanche Deveraux).

Read a book by an author who shares a name with one of the Golden Girls or the Actress who played her. Names may be in any position, but must match exactly.

2. SNL
One of the most memorable recent Betty White moments was her hosting Saturday Night Live for a Mother's Day Episode in 2010. You can watch here opening monologue here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv3c4...

Read a book shelved as Humor

3. Animal Lover
Betty White was known as a dog lover and had over 26 dogs over the course of her lifetime.

Read a book with a dog on the cover.

Florence | 679 comments 50.1 - Florence's Task - Booktube
In 2021 I found a new way to procrastinate from actually reading the books on my TBR shelf - watching youtube videos about other people reading! These tasks are based on my favourite new book tubers.
For this task, you'll read 3 books one from each option. Total page count must exceed 750pgs

Option 1 - Itsdivya
Itsdivya examines trends in book cover art and makes parody covers following said trends. Lets hop on board a couple of those trends.
a) Christmas Romance! Read a book with at least one illustration of a house, and title written in a cursive font
for example: A Wedding on Christmas Street by Ivy Pembroke The Little Christmas House (Hopley Village, #2) by Tracy Rees Hanover House (The Evelyn Talbot Chronicles, #0.5) by Brenda Novak (note books do not have to be Christmas romances)
Required: Post the book cover.

b) Literary Fiction! Read a book with multiple abstract colourful shapes on the cover and a title in capital letters in either solid black or white.
For example: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters Introduction to Static Analysis An Abstract Interpretation Perspective by Xavier Rival (note books do not have to be literary fiction)
Required: Post the book cover.

Option 2 - Jack Edwards / Jackinthebooks
Jack Edwards is particularly popular for his "I read every book recommended by -Insert Celebrity Name Here- or -Insert Fictional Character Here-" videos. They range from the terrible to the surprisingly brilliant. Take a recommendation and read one of these options:

a) A book from this list: Timothee Chalamet's Book Recommendations (note your book must meet SRC guidelines)
Required: post what page of the list your book is on.

b). A book from this listEvery book read by Lisa Simpson (note your book must meet SRC guidelines)
Required: post what page of the list your book is on.

Option 3 - * e m m i e *
I found emmie's channel through her exploration of little free libraries. She is also known for long relaxing blogs where she works her way through the classics..

a) read a book with at least three words in the title (subtitles can be ignored) where the initials of the title words can be found in LITTLEFREELIBRARIES.

b) Read a book with an mpg of classics and with 500+ pages.
