I see some great prompts there (I will have to Google some initials though), so I will definitely join! I'll go for 20, but I don't know which 20 yet :)
Crazytourists_books wrote: "I see some great prompts there (I will have to Google some initials though), so I will definitely join! I apologize for creating work for you upfront.
Liesl wrote: "Carol, do we have to do the challenges in order?"No! That would require an unprecedented level of discipline. :)
Carol could you please confirm the links for tests #17, 20 and Alternates #2 and 3. Only Alt task 5 appears to take you to the correct site.Thank you💐

Beth, I fixed the links for #17 and #20. Alternates #2 and #3 are working for me.
@Ozsaur, I don't think I set one up for this challenge yet. Will do in the next couple of days. Thanks for the nudge.
Ozsaur wrote: "Oh thank you! No rush! I actually wasn't intending to nudge, I thought I was missing it."Not a problem, Ozsaur : )
Here's a link to access, and it's also available on our landing page; however, you may have to click, "see more challenges" because of the quantity of widgets I've set up.

Happy reading!
For the 6th prompt (LGBTQ+ Theme and/or Author) I added the book Trans Britain: Our Journey from the Shadows. More than half of the contributors are women so I though it would fit in this category. If it is not within the group's rules, I will find something else :)
You can find my list as it is populated here
For 18 Biography The Lost Diary of Jane Austen by Syrie James. I picked it for my mother who read it and sje liked it, so it is my turn. Puzzled at first, who is writingFor 13 Princess Sultana‚s Daughters by Jean P. Sasson
I am currently reading All the Things We Never Knew: Chasing the Chaos of Mental Illness by Sheila Hamilton for #11 - Neurodivergence - author, main character or subject matter. Her husband had bipolar disorder and died by suicide. Her book is a bit of "Monday morning quarterbacking" in figuring how things could have been handled differently. It's much, much more than that though. I am not finished, but so far, I am really enjoying it. She is trying hard to destigmatize and normalize as well as spread awareness, information, and resources. I'm really enjoying this book. For anyone who has Audible - it is included in the membership.
I'll join in! I've set up a thread and read two already and working on the third, now reading: Fleur Jaeggy S. S. Proleterka.
Anetq wrote: "I'll join in! I've set up a thread and read two already and working on the third, now reading: Fleur Jaeggy S. S. Proleterka."I absolutely adored S.S.Proleterkaand hope you do, too.
Carol wrote: "I absolutely adored S.S.Proleterka and hope you do, too."Just finished and loved it! Just like the previous Jaegyy I read (Sweet Days of Discipline - I'm a fan!
In 17, Author is a contributor to Margaret Busby Daughters of Africa collection, does the updated edition count?
Crazytourists_books wrote: "In 17, Author is a contributor to Margaret Busby Daughters of Africa collection, does the updated edition count?"Yes, absolutely. If you’ve got a better /more current link than the one I grabbed, share it here, please, and I’ll update the original list. Thank you!
Carol wrote: "Crazytourists_books wrote: "In 17, Author is a contributor to Margaret Busby Daughters of Africa collection, does the updated edition count?"Yes, absolutely. If you’ve got a better /more current ..."
It is actually not an updated edition, but a "companion volume, entitled New Daughters of Africa".
The link that you put is absolutely fine, it is where I read about this new volume.
Crazytourists_books wrote: "Carol wrote: "Crazytourists_books wrote: "In 17, Author is a contributor to Margaret Busby Daughters of Africa collection, does the updated edition count?"Yes, absolutely. If you’ve got a better ..."
Thank you, CTB - I had misunderstood and didn't know there's a new volume out. Thanks for clarifying and sharing.
How is everyone doing with this challenge? Are there any prompts where you want to crowd-source recommendations? If, yes, you're at the right place to lob any sourcing questions.
Hannah wrote: "I'm doing quite well but could do with recommendations for a Nordic country?"Tove Jansson, author of this month's group read, plus The Summer Book, is from Finland. I adored both books. On a completely different note, if you like mystery/thrillers, I'm a fan of Icelandic author, Yrsa Sigurðardóttir's I Remember You: A Ghost Story, The Legacy and The Reckoning.
I haven't read, Miss Iceland by Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir, which takes place in the 1960s, but Story and Tamara enjoyed it and -- if the description appeals -- check out their reviews.
An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten. A collection of stories about an elderly lady who does what she wants - including murder.
Ozsaur wrote: "An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten. A collection of stories about an elderly lady who does what she wants - including murder."I got burned out on Tursten's mystery novels a couple of years ago. I can't recall which one pushed me over the edge,; but I've sensed since then that I likely need to give her another calculated, intentional, highly-recommended-by-a-friend chance. I'll see if I can find this collection.
Carol, I've gotten burned out on authors myself, or a series. I do want to read more of Helene Tursten eventually, probably more of the Elderly Lady series.
Ozsaur wrote: "Carol, I've gotten burned out on authors myself, or a series. I do want to read more of Helene Tursten eventually, probably more of the Elderly Lady series."I read two of her Irene Huss series and the fifth in that series, The Glass Devil, had major pacing problems. By its name alone, the Elderly Lady series appeals : )
I need help. I've read 4 books for the multi-prompt challenge but only 2 are showing up. I've tried re-tagging all four books, but that hasn't fixed the issue. Am I doing something wrong?
I've got another question for you. Would either Ariadne or The silence of the girls fit in the prompt 20?
Crazytourists_books wrote: "I've got another question for you. Would either Ariadne or The silence of the girls fit in the prompt 20?"I think either of these retellings perfectly qualify. What made you question whether they did (maybe I'm missing a concern whilst staring right at it)?
thanks Carol! I asked because the prompt says about a "real" heroine and both books are retellings of ancient myths
Crazytourists_books wrote: "Now that a read the prompt again, they both fit, I got confused for no reason"The serious answer is, we wanted to make it really broad and inclusive, so if a broad and inclusive reading works, that's consistent with our thinking (not that that's the sacred totem...) OTOH, my immediate take on your message #35 was, what is "reality", an existential rabbit hole for the ages... : ) Happy reading, CT!
A little late to the party... But I just joined (the group and this challenge). Excited to use these prompts to choose my next few books :)

How's everyone doing with this challenge? Are there any prompts that you'd like recommendations for?
Carol wrote: "How's everyone doing with this challenge? Are there any prompts that you'd like recommendations for?"I have 14 of 20 completed. My favorite so far was either The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna (#2 - Author is of African descent, living anywhere). It is a West-African inspired fantasy. It is book 2 of the series, and book 1 really needs to be read first. It's not a series you could jump in the middle. The second book tied for favorite is The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa. It is so sweet and sad and cute. I was bawling at the end, and I love books that elicit that kind of visceral response.
I have 14 of 20 completed. My favorite so far was either [book:The Merciless One..."Misty - I've been looking for a good In Translation option, and your suggestion looks wonderful, thank you!
If anyone has suggestions, I'd also love ideas for #10 (Indigenous author) and #15 (Nordic author)
Thanks!

Those are wonderful suggestions! I've added both to my list to read.
Thanks so much Jovan.

Lindsey, For the Nordic author, you may want to check out our Q3 challenge thread, generally, (linked below) for messages on that half of the challenge. If you're a mystery/thriller/Nordic noir fan, let us know. If you're looking for something not in that space, messages 6 - 8 at this link might give you some ideas that appeal.

The majority of these listed books are in translation, so two birds, as it were.

What a fantastic list! Thank so much for attaching those links Carol.

You’re very welcome!
The individual threads for this challenge show a wonderful diversity of choices and reads. Is anyone still seeking ideas for a particular prompt?Don't forget - our group reads for December Finding Me(prompts 2, 7 and 18) and Her Body and Other Parties: Stories (prompt 6) might help you complete it, if you're in the mood.
Name one book you read for this challenge that you likely wouldn't have picked up otherwise, and you're glad you did. Mine is Old Indian Legends by Zitkála-Šá.
I really enjoyed this challenge. There are a handful (or more) books I likely wouldn't have picked up without the prompts. My favorite was for #8. Published between 1900 - 1970 : Beast In View - I searched for it specifically for this challenge, and it ended up being such a lovely enjoyable read.
