Brabant | 5 comments I do not like reading about violence or sex. I enjoy the intellectual puzzle of crime books. Authors I read with pleasure include Andea Camellieri (Montalbano), Donna Leon (Brunetti), Martin Walker (Bruno chief of police) but I have read them all...... I was hoping to find recomendations which might lead me to a new discovery. Any suggestions gratefully considered.

Barbara (okbye) | 47 comments There is a mystery subset called cozies that are mysteries without graphic violence but I'm not aware of any Scandinavian writers who do that kind of thing. They're generally much lighter reads and usually have a fun theme, like cooking or pet sitting or house renovating and often have a minor romance going on. It's usually a non-professional solving the crimes.

Brabant | 5 comments Thanks for that. I was thinking Wallander but Amazon reviews are kind of putting me off! Gisela Hafezparast | 97 comments Never let anything put you off Wallander. Of course there is some violence, it is a crime novel after all, but it is not overdone, if you know what I mean. If there is sex and alas Wallander is not lucky in that regard, it's not in your face. Give me a go.
Just finished the Asa Larsson series which a bit like Camellieri and Leon are about crime, but even more about culture, people and history. I'm sure you would enjoy these.

Janet Newport (janetnewport) | 1 comments A couple of non-Scandi authors/series to look for -
Colin Cotterill's Dr. Siri books and Alexander McCall-Smith's Botswana series are satisfying a la Andrea Camilleri.

Brabant | 5 comments Yes I have always wondered about the No 1 Ladies detective agency. Maybe I should give them a try. Thanls too for Colin Cotterill - never heard of this writer before.
