Was kinda bummed I didn't figure out the killer but it was a fun mystery. Looking forward to seeing how they did the movie

Spent 2020 and 2021 reading all of Agatha Christie's books. Some were definitely more successful than others. I, also, loved Death on the Nile. Have you read Murder on the Orient Express or The Murder of Roger Ackroyd? Both are fantastic.

message 102: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra | 468 comments Oh wow Lillie that is so cool!! so many books! I did read Orient Express a few years ago and loved it! Roger Ackroyd is on my tbr list and I am really looking forward to reading it!!

2,000 books on your tbr?! I was overwhelmed with the 500 or so I have on my list. I'd be buried under 2,000 🤣

Phew, then don't look at mine.

I’m afraid to ask how many you have, lol

But I hear you about forgetting titles if I don’t make a note of them. That’s why I’ve been tearing through audiobooks these last few years. I prefer print but I can move around and get things done with audiobooks.

This is such a good book and I think, just maybe, that the movie is better!

message 126: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra | 468 comments Finished book #50 Matilda by Roald Dahl (Audiobook) 3. 5 Stars! I listened to this book with my Zoe girl and have to say I was kinda surprised with how it wasn't very kid friendly, at least in my opinion. Zoe liked it very much and there was definitely some great parts but could have done without the word "stupid" being used so often and just how sad it was at times but glad it made my girl decide she really liked audiobooks so we will definitely listen to lots more in the future!

I agree about the movie but the book was still a good read. I saw the movie first so not sure if that made me bias. Sorry the last two reads we’re not so great.

Lea (leaspot) | 3747 comments Oh, no! North Dakota is always my last state...I'm always looking for a good book set in that area of the country. Too bad this wasn't it for you, but onward to the next book. So exciting that you only have one state left, I hope South Dakota is a better read for you!

Not the best, but not a bad one set in North Dakota: The Winter in Anna.

Thank you so much, my library has the book! I finally finished my state challenge after many years recently with Rocket Girl: The Story of Mary Sherman Morgan, America's First Female Rocket Scientist which has some of the childhood chapters set in North Dakota. It was good, but not amazing, and I know I'm going to need another North Dakota book sometime as well.

Thanks, that's the same author of the book Alexandra did not care for also! Great minds think alike!

I guess Erdrich writes a lot of books set in North Dakota. It appears that she is a good writer and gets great reviews from literary people, but the rest of us regular people who read books for fun and entertainment don't seem to be as impressed. I don't have first hand knowledge as I haven't yet read any of her work, this is just my current guess. I'm trying to wait until I have more of an open mind towards her work before I commit to reading one! I don't want to start a book that I already don't think I'm going to like - that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Alexandra | 468 comments Finished book #58 Signal Moon by Kate Quinn (Audio book and short story) 4 Stars! I really enjoyed this one and wish it was longer but even in the short amount of pages it was a great story! Very interesting concept, the only thing was it had quite a bit of bad language for such a short book but I am just picky when it comes to that lol. Very good narrators too!
