Don't listen to me. That is just my opinion, and so many others loved it. I still have the book, so I really want to give it another try. I think my expectations were really high, and just felt let down.

If you decide to read it, I will be interested to see what you think

Kudos on your progress!!! Woot!!

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments Finished my 11th book - What Comes After What Comes After by JoAnne Tompkins - 3 stars.

I did this book as a buddy read with Alissa. So good bad or ugly those books are always just fun. Love my buddy reads with Alissa!! 🧡

Ok, the book - so I really enjoyed the story. You have two boys dead, a pregnant girl and one of those boys is probably the baby daddy. Some mystery, some drama, some hearts finding their way to love and forgiveness. Sounds like a recipe for success right? So why didn't I give it 5 stars? Because at the very end of the book (and I was fine with the ending...) the author puts this epilogue that made absolutely no sense to me. For me that epilogue was pointless and really took away from the book. In fact, it frustrated me so badly I actually threw my book off the bed. (Yes you can call me childish, but it ticked me off) You have this great story and then just kill the readers high I was on. I would still recommend this book, just leave off the epilogue.

Up next:
Somebody's Daughter

Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments Congrats on finishing Book #11! I throw books too. Why do authors do that; ruin the last little bit in the book?!? I love buddy reading with Alissa too, she's a great buddy reader. I'm super eager to see what you think about Somebody's Daughter, I'm hoping to get to that book next month! :-)

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments Finished my 12th book - The Four Winds The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah - 3 stars.

I changed up what i was going to read next and tackled this book first.

This was not my favorite book of Kristin Hannah. Her other books I've read I loved and devoured. This one took me a minute to read. It's a sad, depressing story that gets extremely heavy at parts. Now, having said that, the writing is absolutely phenomenal. It is clear she did a lot of research for this book and I enjoyed learning more about the Depression. And that ending had me speechless and in tears.

Now i am hoping to get to Somebody's Daughter

I know, right?! Why do authors do that, lol? I'm sure authors are throwing things at their computer screens when they read our reviews wondering why we didn't get it. 🤣
Alissa rocks!!!
Should be starting Somebody's Daughter soon.

Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments Congrats on finishing!

I do want to read more Kristin Hannah, but it seems I have a lot of other options besides The Four Winds that might suit me better. (I've only read The Nightingale and The Great Alone so far.)

I'll be starting Somebody's Daughter next week, maybe? After I finish The Final Girl Support Group, it is next up. :-)

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments Finished my 13th book - Somebody's Daughter Somebody's Daughter by Ashley C. Ford - 3 stars.

So.....based on the description of the book, I was expecting a memoir that would sit with me for days and a story that would be unforgettable. That's not exactly what I got. Ashley Ford can write and she does have a story there of her life (she went through traumas no child should ever have to face), but there was something missing in the book for me. And I honestly can't pinpoint what that "something" was that would have boosted this book up to 5 stars. The book was just okay for me.

Up next- Survive the Night

message 67: by Lea (new)

Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments I thought the same about Somebody's Daughter. I expected to get more about her relationship with her father based upon the hype surrounding the book. Instead it was more of a coming of age book about her journey towards self discovery. I liked the book, but I wanted to love it and found I could not.

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments Finished my 14th book - Survive the Night Survive the Night by Riley Sager - 5 stars.

Finally a 5 star book after a slew of 3 star ones. And a great way to kick off October! I love books I just can't put down, ones that make me second guess what I think is happening and ones that make me want to sleep with a light on... Riley Sager does it to me everytime. I know there's mixed reviews on this one, but I loved it. You won't be able to survive the night without knowing how it ends! 🤣

Up next - either Not a Happy Family or The Lincoln Highway

I really need to read one of his books. Maybe, next year, unless I can fit him in for my November mystery/thrillers.

Glad you finally got that 5 Star read after so long. I hate that.

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments Finished my 15th book - Not a Happy Family Not a Happy Family by Shari Lapena . 4 stars.

If there ever was an award for the perfect title for a book, this one would win it! Talk about a really not happy family. Holy cow! This book will keep you guessing and in your toes trying to figure out this murder mystery!

Now in go my last book on the list!!!! Woot woot!! 💃 - The Lincoln Highway

message 72: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1136 comments Congrats on completing the challenge & almost finishing all your books! I read my first Shari Lapena not long ago and hope to read more. The Couple Next Door was great on audio. I have The Lincoln Highway on my list as well, but my book club is reading it in the spring, so I'm going to hold off on it. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on it. I've read some mixed reviews, but can't wait to read it.

Lindsey Gandhi (lindseygandhi) | 1228 comments I finished MY LAST BOOK!! Book #16 - The Lincoln Highway The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles .

Woot, woot!!! 💃

I gave it 3 stars. I really wanted this book to be more likeable based on the reviews. But I struggled to get through it. I did like some of the characters... well, really all of them except Duchess. The story just dragged on for me. I love historical fiction, this just didn't do it for me. It held enough attention for me to finish the book which is why I gave it 3 stars versus 2. And I loved Billy. But overall it was just meh.

Now I'm chomping at the bit to start my 2023 lists!!!

Congrats! I don't remember the story dragging, but I had issues with the story, and especially the ending. Good luck in 2023, hope you have 4-5 stars books only!
