Thanks Susie!Question: the record of vol. 5 says that it was first published in 1980, but that should be removed. 1984 is definitely the first edition. The five volumes weren't published at the same time; Vol. 1 for instance was first published in 1977 (but I'll get to 1 and 2 later, when I've gathered up my courage ;) )
Checked Amazon UK, although that's not always reliable. That lists 3 editions with the first being published in 1984:http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/07...

Ah yes, via those book links I mentioned, I've got just about every Amazon site on mine, as not all Amazon sites share the same information! :)

Further to our conversation here:Kirkpatrick makes no mention whatsoever of a 1992 reissue or reprint, except for one of the Penguin volumes, which has a completely different ISBN. That may explain why I haven't been able to find any trace of it in libraries online (I searched several Dutch libraries, the British Library and the British National Bibliography).
The only references I've found to a publishing date of 11 August 1992 are on these booksellers' sites:
- Amazon India (http://www.amazon.in/DIARY-OF-VIRGINI...), which uses the same stock photo of the cover that AbeBooks UK (http://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Boo...) uses for the first edition (which is the cover that I have too); and
- Barnes and Noble (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-d...), which uses the same incorrect page count that was entered on GR (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...) - it includes the introductory pages in Roman numerals.
Of vol. 1, Kirkpatrick only says that there was a further printing, with corrections, of 1000 copies published in July 1983 (apparently not enough to warrant another ISBN). Of vol. 2 she mentions no further printings at all (I'm referring only to the Hogarth edition here, the Penguin and Harcourt editions did have reprintings).
So if you agree that the dates can be changed to the first editions I'll post the corrections and additions here :)
OK, if you let us know which ones should be corrected and the correct date for them, we can look into it and update them (the usual source we use is WorldCat).With that edition of Vol 1, I would change it to the first print date, being as it doesn't have a cover. Is the pagination correct? WorldCat lists 356, which I assume is more accurate (the details for this record were an import from B&N).
It seems to be quite complex with regards to digital records nowadays. I wonder if some booksellers use the date that they first started selling them in most cases, rather than an actual print date? It must be complicated to keep track of older works, which is why WorldCat is so useful!

I updated/tidied author information, so it gives the correct info as per the description.
The description is a bit of a complicated one. The NY Times part needs to go, so if I remove both parts, there'll be nothing left! Therefore I'll leave the duplicate info, so there's something there, until someone can come up with a better description.
