~*Kim*~ (greenclovers75) Voted, although it was a touch choice based on my reading speeds and taste.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11115 comments I keep looking at the high roller game to see if there is any way I could swing it. Under the current rules I couldn't complete the challenge in the time allowed, and I consider myself a fairly heavy reader.

100 random tags X 300 potential monthly tags = 30000 combinations. I would find it fun to look for interesting combinations, but only if I had enough time to plan ahead.

If we can't "spin" for the next random tag until we've completed the previous book, this allows no time for preplaning. It can take hours, days or sometimes weeks to research, select, and obtain the books I want to read for any tag. I couldn't do this between each and every book. It would be fun for 12 or 24 books spread throughout the year, but not 100.

I can think of a lot of ways to tweak the rules to make it more feasible, with options for light and heavy readers, if anyone is interested. Every year, I wish that we had a time period for member participation in tweaking the details of games before people voted.

Thanks Anita, I love these three options, and I really appreciate all the thought that went into them.

Anita Pomerantz | 9299 comments Nancy,

Send along your ideas to me via PM. We often tweak past ideas that don't win the vote (but that do well in voting) in future years.

If it wins, people like it, so . . .

Honestly, no one is reading 100 books for High Rollers unless they keep rolling 1 and never land on a surprise space. It's a 100 space game board. It has as much luck as reading to finish the board. A light reader could absolutely get lucky and finish the board first. A person could read the most books or get the most participation points while only moving through half the tags. And someone could win a prize doing minimal reading if they are lucky and reveal a prize on one of the "spaces".

Ah, I had no idea what was on the game board. I'm sure whichever challenges win, I'll be able to participate in at least one of them.

Ellen | 3522 comments Such imaginative choices as usual! It was a tough decision but I voted and am looking forward to see which one comes out on top.

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I love High Rollers the most, sounds like the most flexible. The only concern is hitting a random tag with the monthly tag. That seems like it could be really difficult (for me).

I am also really partial to literary book club. Love that it encourages discussion and getting PBT members involved to pick a book and lead discussions.

Theresa | 15664 comments I finally voted! It is going to be interesting to see what is chosen.

message 61: by JudithAnn (new)

JudithAnn | 44 comments How nice to see that the group is still going! I was a member for several years a while ago. I think I'd like to join in again! I don't have much time, but I'll make some. I went from 180 books per year to about 30 as I have my own company (a book editing company; books are still my passion).

OMG, JudithAnn!!!! It's so amazing to "see" you again. You have your own company???? That is INCREDIBLE. I definitely noticed your absence, and of course, we'd love to see you here anytime -- 1 book, 30 books, or 180 books.

Ellen | 3522 comments How wonderful to have you back with us, JudithAnn! And congratulations on your new business.

JudithAnn | 44 comments Thanks, Anita and Ellen. So nice to hear that you remember me. I look forward to being part of the next challenge!

message 65: by Joni (new)

Joni | 626 comments I am going to forego the vote this time. I have so many things going on in my personal life that trying to comprehend each challenge makes my head hurt. That being said, I will evaluate the new challenges after the voting is final.

But I will agree with all the others, our admin team is awesome and always comes up with some really great challenges.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11115 comments I can't wait to see what we picked. I'm always apprehensive at first, but they're always fun. Thanks Anita for reassuring me about High Rollers.

No worries, Nancy! We want these activities to be fun, but the voting almost always surprises me!!

Good thing I voted early. Due to wind storms (75mph gusts!) our internet, phone and cable was out from about 10:30 yesterday morning until about 1 hours ago!

Yikes! Glad you are back on. We didn't have a lot of outages over here but some people did have damage from wind or branches falling on houses.

Yikes. that's rough. I'm glad you're back on.

Our worst day was Saturday, with winds exceeding 125 mph. We didn't lose power or trees, but some of our neighbors weren't so lucky. One of our neighbor's trees just missed his house. It was freaky to see.

I feel really bad for all the people hit by the devastating tornados.
