Hi everyone,

If you are joining us for our winter selection, A Christmas Carol, we are now at Stave 2-The First of the Three Spirits.

Scrooge suddenly awakes at midnight and remembers Jacob Marley telling him that he will be visited by three spirits. Scrooge is being visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past. The spirit takes him back to his childhood, friends and places he experienced as a youth. He revisits his boarding school where he spend many holidays alone. He sadly sees his sister Fan bringing him home from school. Fan is the mother of his nephew Fred.

The spirit takes Scrooge to revisit other past Christmases. He gets an opportunity to see his old supervisor Fezziwig and his former fiancee Belle. Scrooge is distraught from all the memories and the life that could've been. He asks the spirit to return him home. Once home, he returns to his bed and falls asleep.

What do you think about the first spirit? Did it accomplish the attempt to help Scrooge remember his past through his sad and fond memories? His sister? Belle? Fezziwig? Being sent to a lonely boarding school. How did all these experiences shape him to become what he was present day? Has he learned any valuable lessons yet? Why would he lose those friendships and love for a life of greed and unhappiness? What do you think of the story so far?

Have a good day.

Sincerely,

-Donna
