Marvelous choice, Candi. One of my favorite categories for the Bingo. I love hearing from other members the books that most impressed them.

I still have to read a book by an Asian author for another challenge I am doing...this might have to be the choice. :o) The bingo progresses!

I'd love to hear what you think of it, Sara! I'm also tempted by his book, The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea :)

I have thought about reading that one, Candi. I saw the movie a long, long time ago and I still remember the surprising ending. I think knowing the ending might destroy the book for me.

Candi (candih) | 673 comments Yeah, that can kill a book for you, Sara!

Oh Candi, I loved this book!! And I'm glad you did too. Wasn't it wonderful?! More people should read this book :)
And I'm happy that it came along with a Bingo -- your first!! Congratulations!

I'm going to make an effort to watch the movie this weekend or the upcoming week, Sara! And thank you!!

Kathleen, from what I understand, the movie leaves out the most disturbing scene! Yikes! Well, I haven't seen it personally yet, so I'll have to find out for myself if that's really the case or not :D

Candi, I had essentially the same reaction you did. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in being underwhelmed by this beloved by everyone else book.

Candi (candih) | 673 comments Likewise, Laurie! I'm happy to find that there are other readers out there that felt dissatisfied after finishing this one.
