Everyone's favorite book nook (spot) looks different. What does yours look like? (this can be imaginary or real, but I'm actually really curious)

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 40 comments Hi! I LOVE this question!
Since I've been out of my parent's house - where I shared the room with my sister, I always made a book nook in my rooms or apartments.
Currently, I managed to create a small reading nook behind a big open bookcase, so I have them on both sides (the front faces the entry door while the back is almost completely hidden) and I have a soft carpet with a pouf full of cushions and plaids and three other shelves to complete the nook, one at the right height to double as a little table (I usually have my portable vinyl player, a mug of tea and the books I'm currently reading on it). Less than a meter away there's a stove, perfect this time of the year.
Sadly I have very little time to enjoy it, but it's a joy just knowing it exists ❤️
What about you?

Hi! Thank you! Your book nook sounds AWESOME!

Mine is in my room, on my bed right next to my window and bookshelf. I love to open the window so I can rest my eyes (my eyesight is horrible because when I was young I would read too much in the dark without resting my eyes, so I'm trying to salvage what's left of itXD). It's also a good source of light, and the view of my backyard and the hills beyond it is awesome. It's not the best, certainly not as good as yours, but it works:)

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 40 comments It sounds great! I imagined a Jane Eyre scenario, I have to say XD and it's good you take good care of your sight, I am beyond salvation on that account lol

I too used to read on my bed, so it was sort of a nook in itself, but I had no view! And I had books scattered all over because the room was small and we were two. So now I'm very keen about my spaces eheh

ᏒᏋᎩ (detectingeagle310) | 5 comments I like sitting on my bed, in the corner of the room because my bed is placed that way and lean against the wall as I read but I do have another space where I read which annoys my parents alot. Like, I sit inside the space under my table too. My imaginary book nook though would be really different though which I still have to think about.

Cool! The part about "annoys my parents a lot" made me laugh- my mom, one time, told me I read too much and took away my book for some reason, which made me really mad. She hid it, but I found it, and then read at night when I was supposed to be sleeping.

Yeah! My book nook is on my bed leaning against the window frame too- it's so comfy there, especially in the winter when you can snuggle up with blankets.

If you ever do get inspiration for your ideal nook book, please let me know! I'd love to hear about it.

Ooh! My parents took away my Kindle too! But I found it and read late into the night! About three or four am!

Yes!! I get that!! It's so comfy, right?!?!

Kk!!!

Wow that's late! When I stay up too late, I just shut down. With good books, though, time flies by so quickly.

Yes, it is! I'm a person that gets cold easily, so my bed is my perfect book nook:)

message 11: by ᏒᏋᎩ (new)

ᏒᏋᎩ (detectingeagle310) | 5 comments My body only shuts down if I stay up till five or something! Otherwise in awake till 4 or 4 thirty unless I had karate that day. Because then my body would be too tired to keep me up till even 2.
Yeah! I once read till four fifty or something and my body just shut down without me realising because I still thought that it was one am and I fell asleep while reading my Kindle! XD good thing I didn't get caught though.

Nice! I used to sit in that area while listening to music rather than reading because I either need a corner or I need to lie down while reading.

Oh my gosh!! You fell asleep with your Kindle! That's like, legendary :)

I'm so dependent on sleep, I have to go to sleep EARLY- I need like 9+ hours or something, but typically I don't get anywhere near that.

Karate! That's awesome- that'd be so cool, to know how to do karate.

Ahh music! The food of the soul:) I love listening to music anywhere and anytime I can.

message 13: by ᏒᏋᎩ (new)

ᏒᏋᎩ (detectingeagle310) | 5 comments I know!!! XD I love doing it but if my parents find out then I am probably gonna lose my Kindle privileges for a month or two.

I used to be like that but now I survive on four-five hours of sleep! Not that anyone other than my friends know that...

Not when you have to hear a lecture on how you aren't doing good enough and can't get a single medal in a fight from your dad every time you lose a fight in a competition 😔😔😔

YAS!!!! SAME!!! YOU GET IT!!!

Thanks for being so active in the group- every time you reply you make me laugh or something.

Oh no! A month or more with limited time with your Kindle...that's got to be sad. Do you read a lot on your Kindle?

Wow! Four or five hours! That's pretty impressive.

Aww I'm sure you try your best and that's what matters. Karate is hard, and I bet your competitors don't have the other many talents or skills that you have.

YESSSS MUSIC IS SO AWESOME!!

message 15: by Fabitha (new)

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 40 comments Wow Daisy I'm super impressed! If I had to train with just 4/5 hrs of sleep I'd be dead in a minute! I'm an ex judoka so I know the struggle is real, I was a good sparring partner but perfomed bad at my own tournaments, it was kinda frustrating (now I play roller derby and I just love it, no pressure there!)

I need A LOT of sleep too, also I sleep very poorly, my brain never really shut, no matter how many hours I sleep.

And I hope you'll never lose your Kindle privileges. May they last forever!

I feel happy every time I make someone laugh or smile so I'm glad to hear that! Pretty sure I picked this up from another GR friend of mine, Abby, but yeah now i love making people laugh!

Yeah it's sad and frustrating but that's why fanfiction doesn't exist on Kindle, lol. And yeah, I am kinda dependant on my Kindle because I don't have much access to proper books. Kindle books and internet archive are my only source of books nowadays. *sadness*

:) Thanks, Catherine. Honestly it sometimes feels unfair when our teachers make me and one of my best friends fight against eleventh and twelfth graders because those guys are apparently the same height and weight as us.... But dad says that age doesn't matter so idk.

MUSIC IS THA BEST!!!!

I am.... Not that proud to admit that I literally tried and practised surviving on four hours of sleep multiple times just to see if I could do it XD

Yeah I get that and parents and teachers always expect us to do great and when we don't, that disappointed look on their faces just makes me wanna cry.

I'm sorry that happens. I can't imagine not being able to get deep sleep...

I hope so too! 😂

message 18: by Fabitha (new)

Fabitha (fabitha89) | 40 comments Well one has to experience stuff some way XD

Actually I was more disappointed in myself than others, my mother was very supportive and never put pressure on me. Teachers on the other end...they mean well but we're all different and we need to be treated accordingly, especially when we are young. Those years will shape us forever. I hope you find joy in the things you do ❤️ (oh my I sound so old)

message 19: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 202 comments I usually read just about everywhere, but if I had a specific book nook, I might have it outisde (except when the weather won't let me). Maybe one of those swings that have cushions and pillows that reclines slightly so I can lean back but not so much that I feel like sleeping:) Right inside, there might be a bookshelf so I can grab books on my way outside or put them back when I go back inside. When the weather is bad, my book nook (where I usually read) is in my beanbag in my room.

That sounds so cool! I like reading outside, except that is always makes me sleepy for some reason...probably the sun. Personally, I like to read in hard backed chairs- I have a problem with sitting in one place too much, and therefore slouching- I need to get out of that habit XD.

message 21: by Madeline (new)

Madeline | 202 comments I do too😅 My backpack definitely does not help my posture either.

jay (aelin's version) | 87 comments my book nook is under my desk which is not usually very comfy but a lot of my books are kept on the shelves under my desk so usually while i go under to get a book i quite often stay down there and read. ive got blankets and pillows under my desk for when i stay down and read

Danielle | 40 comments On a puffy cloud, near my golden palace. With birds flying and twirling near me. And my golden flowy dress flowing with the breeze. Birds singing their own beautiful song to me. The sun shinning brightly for my light. A rainbow not far from me, shinning it's beautiful colors. Inside my palace, people running around for a ball to celebrate my birthday. The sun is shinning over my home, making it glitery.

nothing wrong with a nice place to chill and read books right?

message 38: by nat (new)

nat Eheeee soo, I have this thing right? Where I can kind’ve make myself literally see what I want to see. Like a photograph. If I want to see the forest I can make myself see the forest like virtual reality. Of course, it’s not thought up from scratch. I look up photos online, piece them together and make my own world. I don’t know if this is a coping mechanism to something. But it’s my way of being (yes, just being)

I basically can look up photos of anything (space, forests, a library) and then I’ll take bits and pieces to make a scene that makes me happy.
It always includes (for the forest)
1. Sensory textures (mosses, tree bark, maybe fur of an animal, preferably a mini rex rabbit)
2. Sounds (birds, twigs snapping, animals prancing about the woods around me) which I turn on forest sounds on my phone.
For anyone wondering about the textures, I have a very soft blanket that feels like a rabbits fur, I have little stuffies that have certain rough-like textures, and I also have little fidgets I can use.

For libraries and space? Mainly I just like silence.
When I do school I try to do this, but my mind is in a constant state of thought and sometimes stress?

I don’t know if that’s normal but it’s something I do and I feel like I’m actually there. Often, I will read and imagine myself there. It works best when I’m laying in bed (when it’s quiet and not super crazy)

But the forests I have “designed” per say have TONS of details. From the cliffs to the fish in the creek.

Please, tell me I am not the only one who does this.
If I am, please tell me why I am like this🙂

message 39: by nat (new)

nat But I just wish I could SHOW people. It’s SO REAL. But everyone thinks I’m crazy-

But whatever, their loss🫠😂
