Buddy Read Requests? Post them here!
I would definitely want to read Middlemarch, but I know I won’t be able to till later in spring. Reading Bleak House with Dickensian group in February. So if it’d later I will join in.
I’d be interested in Middlemarch too, but for a little bit later as well. Currently already reading a couple of chunksters.
There will be a buddy read of These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 in April. Just placing this reminder so anyone interested can plan.
I just barely read that book last month and I loved it! I’ll definitely join in on the discussion! 😃
I'd be interested in reading Middlemarch too, but I'll have to manage my reading plans differently then. Also, I'd have to find a copy. I'll check in from time to time to see what you've all decided.
Sara wrote: "Do we have a buddy read of Middlemarch? If so, what is the time frame?"I planned to start Middlemarch sometime in April, then The Second Sex won the long read poll. Plans changed. I can't multitask my reading, especially chunksters.
Klowey and I are planning a buddy read of Monkey King: Journey to the West in April, if anyone is interesting to join. It could be later as well.
Anette, I have added your read to the schedule and set up a thread for your discussion. Enjoy.

A reminder that Elkhorn Tavern is scheduled for a read in May, and Stormy Weather in June.
Also, a group consisting of Kathleen, Candi, Terry and myself are reading Sometimes a Great Notion in June. This book was nominated for a long read and did not win, so it can be used for the Long Read-Second or Worse category (for those who are doing the challenge).

Sarah and other mods, may Shirley and I have a buddy read thread in June to read Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil by Hannah Arendt. Everyone is welcome to join in.
I will add it to the schedule, Cynda. If I can possibly get a copy and make room, I would like to join. Just can't be certain.
My library also has Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil on Overdrive (Libby app). I found the Kindle version for $6.99, so I may do that.

I'm in - if I don't end up reading it before then.

Add me to the buddy read for this please. When are you beginning the novel?

Sam, I assume you mean the read for Sometimes a Great Notion. The discussion starts in June, and I will try to begin reading as close to the first of June as possible. I have posted the thread: HERE
Glad you will be joining us.

Hello mods,Wayne and I are going to do a buddy read on The Landlady by Roald Dahl the first two weeks of June. And of course everyone is welcome to join :-)
Cynda wrote: "Irphen may I join in? I see audiobook is available on YouTube, about 20 minutes."Of course!^^ I will be looking forward to see you on the thread then! :-)
Sara wrote: "Irphen - I have added it to the schedule and created your thread: Here"
Thank you Sara! :-)
I just started A History of Western Philosophy. I read preface and introduction, and I am already like it very much. It was primarily this book that earned Bertrand Russell the 1950 Nobel Prize in literature. He defines philosophy very broadly as what lies between science and theology.I am planning on reading it slowly. It may take more than the rest of the year. Maybe I will read the Greek philosophers and then take a break. If anyone wants to join me, I can be flexible about the schedule.
I recommend The Life of Greece to you. The last person to whom I recommended this book actually read all 1000+ pages and rated it a 5 star book. Hope you read it too. I haven't so far, but the author, Will Durant, was a scholar in the both the purist and plebian sense of the word.

One of those listed as most similar to Russell's.
I am enjoying A History of Western Philosophy a lot. It is more funny than I ever imagined.

Reminder that there will be a group read of Conrad Richter's Awakening Land trilogy, beginning with The Trees in July, with The Fields in August and The Town in September. I am adding these to the schedule now and will set up the July discussion thread. Hope to see you there!
Since A Cry of Angels, by Jeff Fields, seems to be at the bottom of the list for the Classics voting, I am wondering, would there be interest in Buddy Read for this one? …assuming it makes no giant leaps to the top of the list!

I've been wanting to read this one for quite a while. I would be interested.

I hope you guys do get a buddy read for Cry of Angels. It is one book that I just want to tell everyone they MUST read.
