Sara what do you suggest? Regina and I plan to read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo throughout 2024. There are just the right amount of chapters to read about 7 chapters a week. We would like a buddy read thread for the length of a year? Is this possible? Do we need to wait until the poll for February 2024 finishes? And we hope others will join us at the rate they wish to read the novel.

We already have threads for Les Miserables broken down into several threads, along with a Whole Book Discussion thread. I'd say go ahead and start your buddy read when you like and use the threads available for it. Most of the threads are practically empty - so it will be almost like starting new threads anyway. There are 16 threads and also another in the books & films folder. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
You might want to post your schedule in the General Discussion thread and go on from there. This is the only thread with several posts.

Cynda, as Katy has already pointed you in the right direction, I will only add that if it does not win the poll, I will add it to the Buddy Read schedule for you. I suspect you and Regina will find some others who want to join.
Thank you Katy and Sara. Both provide good suggestions. Usually one of the past threads is used a buddy read, so we will be following your suggestion too Katy. . . .I do understand Sara.Yippee yea. Finally going to read Les Mis.
I’m building myself up to attempt Les Mis next year, I don’t know what my schedule will be but I’ll keep an eye on your reading, Cynda.
Janelle, Regina and I plan to read throughout the year. Others are more than welcome to join in for a short or long a time as they would like. So yes stop by.
As it seems very unlikely to win the poll, I'm wondering whether anyone is interested in doing a buddy read for The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins. I'm thinking February or March, but I'm flexible if a different month works better. Any takers?

Actually, quite keen on taking on Les Miserables over a longer period too. I'm not likely to read it without a little peer pressure - it's so long! My attention is not what it used to be, so will be glad of the challenge.

I am interested in reading Les Misérables if done over a year - that's the only way I can fit it in.

Sara, can you add The Moonstone to the Buddy Reads schedule for February? (Assuming, of course, that it doesn't win the poll.)
I will most likely join in a paced Les Mis'. I am just shy of committing since I have been scheduling a lot of reads for next year.
When the polls close, I will add both The Moonstone and Les Mis if they are not winners (which I think it is safe to say they will not be). Delighted for you all, since I think both of them are excellent reads!

I'll try to find my copy of Paradise Lost when we read that one. I haven't read since college but know I have it around here somewhere.

Thank you, Katy!!
Sara may I have The Piano Lesson added to the Agust Wilson buddy read for February 13, 2024, please?

A group of us are planning a March buddy read of My Name Is Asher Lev. Please join us if you are interested.
Hey all,I just happen to be reading Richard III right now and noticed it was up for a vote for March- but it's looking like it won't be selected.
I'd love to chat about it with some of you- perhaps the other 14 who picked it- let me know if you'd be interested in a buddy read.

I nominated the book and I would be able to do a buddy read in March or April. I don't think I can free time before then. My intention was to get a Shakespearean history on our shelf since we have none and Richard III is the one I picked since we can get away with reading it without prequels or sequels, plus if look at it as drama rather than history it can be fun, if a bit bloodthirsty.
We have a bit of a thread on Shakespeare History plays. Some of us tried to read. I am not sure why it all fell apart. . . . You could at least read what there is there.
By request, the Moonstone Buddy Read has now been opened. It will continue through the end of February, but anyone wanting to start earlier will find the discussion thread available.

Anyone interested in reading a memior to honor US Women's History Month in March? I found a Kindle copy for 3USDEighty Years and More: Reminiscences, 1815-1897
This could also help fill Bingo card spot I3.
Shirley (stampartiste) wrote: "Thank you for adding it to the schedule, Sara! I would love for you to join us in reading Paradise Lost and hearing your thoughts. This will be my first time reading it, and I'm lookin..."Hi Shirley, I wouldn't mind revisiting this again this year, I think I can fit it in March.
Each time I read this it gets a little bit easier. I like how for the time it was written in it feels so rebellious.

Hi Sam, I just saw your post. Not sure if this helps, if you're on Facebook there's a Shakespeare Study Group on it. I don't know if I can post links here but am happy to DM if you're interested.

Cynda, I'd be interested in reading that one in March. :)
Sara, may Eileen and I have a buddy read in March to read in March Eighty Years and More: Reminiscences, 1815-1897 by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. We hope others will join is.

Sorry, I missed this. It appears my notifications aren't working correctly. I thank you for your message Anisha, but I will pass on the Facebook group. I just started a new platform with substack and it takes me awhile to get comfortable with a platform. I had nominated Richard III, mainly to get some histories onto our bookshelf and then answered Shirley because she inquired about a readalong, but unless Shirley comes back looking for the buddy read, I am going to wait and nominate Richard III somewhere later in the year. I am busy enough with all these other reads.

No worries, and you're welcome.
Hopefully the next time you nominate R3 it will get through.
Sara/Mods, Eileen and I have moved our buddy read to a nonfiction group where there was more interest. So no buddy read here of Eighty Years and More: Reminiscences, 1815-1897 by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Thanks anyway.
Anybody interested in a buddy read of The Secret History by Donna Tartt? I've wanted to read this one since years and finally I got my hands on a copy.
Ila, depending on timing, you could count me in. The Secret History has been on my TBR since 2020. I have only read The Goldfinch by Tartt. It was very good.
Terry wrote: "Ila, depending on timing, you could count me in. The Secret History has been on my TBR since 2020. I have only read The Goldfinch by Tartt. It was very good."I'd like to read it by the end of February, ideally.
I have set up the discussion threads for March reads of:
My Name Is Asher Lev
Paradise Lost
In This House of Brede
If there are other threads needed, will someone please let me know.

Can we add the title, Seven Guitars to the August Wilson buddy read for March 1st please? Thanks.
