Hi, Lori... I just saw this Buddy Read and think I can fit both books in for April and May. I bought them last year after we read The Black Flower: A Novel of the Civil War, so I really need to dust them off and read them. I'm looking forward to it! Thank you!

I started a few days ago because 1) I'm a slow reader, and 2) I'm reading three other books at the same time. I haven't gotten very far into it yet, but I'm loving Jules Verne's writing style (my first experience with him). I'm looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts!

I have read it too many times already. It was a favourite during my pre-internet days. I found the writing to be very modern. In comparison Journey to the Centre of the Earth was neither as good nor as modern sounding.

I will definitely be reading it, Luffy, but cannot honestly say when. Pretty booked for the next two months, so it might even be the fall before I can. Delighted that everyone enjoyed the first book enough to want to move on to the second.

I just realized that I'm not official GR "friends" with Marilyn and her profile is private. Is anyone GR friends with her who could send her a message about the Rabbit Run change?

I like to occasionally do a read of books associated with a particular region and recommend the exercise if you haven't already done so. For me, it will usually be a place I have lived or spent some time visiting. Other times it will just be a place that has caught my fancy for some reason.

One place I have decided to revisit through literature is Big Sur, California and one of the authors linked to the area is Lillian Bos Ross. I thought of her as a possibility for a group read since her trilogy topic seems a favorite of the group, being about the frontier, settlers, the west, etc. The first book in the now-named Big Sur Trilogy, is called The Stranger, first published in 1942. also called The Stranger in Big Sur and was made into the film Zandy's Bride, 1974, directed by Jan Troell and starring Gene Hackman and Liv Ullman. The 2nd volume was called Blaze Allan and the third Big Sur Trilogy - Part III - The Road: America's Last Pioneer Family by Lillian Bos Ross I am wondering is there any interest from the group in a readalong? I am not suggesting a time. I just wanted to gauge the interest. If interested, let me know. Here are a couple of review links.

I, too, love to read books focusing on a place- mostly I do this when I am travelling there. The Big Sur trilogy sound interesting to me and I would definitely join in if the time is right. I have been there and it’s a great way to revisit a place I have been to.

Thanks for the interest Lorraine, Sara, and Antoinette. I may start the first book to see what it is like before I suggest a time. I feel there is a trigger warning about the portrayal of male female relations I should mention. The film which was made in the 1970's featured a very brutal and from a feminist perspective, contemptible male lead character. I am not sure how much of this is in the book written in the 1940's but I think one would have to approach the novel with a sensibility that was empathetic with the period to enjoy the book rather than judging content from our contemporary viewpoints.
