Good to see you here...again. Enjoy your books, no matter which level you reach. Happy New Year.
Super having you back, Victoria!
Anne Elliot level is a good challenge and I am pretty sure you'll get lots of recommends that fit your mood. :)

Now, that would be a dream class. So glad you could join us, Sinai and cheering you on to Miss Marianne level.

I first read Austen when I was 15. I fell in love with her works and haven’t looked back since! I took a course in college that focused on reading the works of Austen and Jonathan Swift (strange combination, but it worked) as satire. It was one of my favorite courses. 😊
I’m currently abroad studying for my LLM. I love to read, and I hoped to find a (virtual) community that would help to reach my reading goals for the year. My hope is to work through level Anne Elliot. We’ll see!
I’ve been reading through these posts, and you all sound lovely. Grateful to be here together!

Good to see you here.

I spent the weekend reading 3 books! Not what I had intended to do at all. But my parents caught covid (despite being triple vaccinated and Dad in in the hospital with a mild case and Mom is quarantined at home. Means I am stuck at home too, since I am still not out on my own- due to maybe falling....
Anyway, quiet time, means reading time! woot woot!!

Welcome, Tabitha!
How marvelous that you got an early start with Jane Austen and lovely that you found our group to help with being away from your home country. Lots of friendly folk here. Jump in on any of the discussions or conversations.

Oh no, Sam!
Wishing your folks, well. Glad you have your books to distract you while in quarantine.

I’m Heather living in the South East of England. I am a sewist running my own business which I combine with live married to a vicar (think Henry Tilney NOT Mr Collins!).
My love of Austen goes way back to my childhood. My mum was a librarian and I read everything in my path.

Great to hear that there are plans for him to come home.

Glad you to have you taking the challenge this year, Heather, and neat that your mum got you into reading and loving Austen. Lucky you married to your own Mr. Tilney. :)

Thanks, Teresa! :)

My introduction to Jane Austen was watching the Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth Pride & Prejudice mini-series one Thanksgiving weekend with my grandparents. I was instantly enchanted and started reading the novels. Stumbled upon some JAFF at the local library. After being gifted a kindle (Best. Birthday. Present. EVER!) I quickly discovered the vast world of JAFF online and in ebook form. This group has been happily expanding my Austensque TBR at a far faster rate than I can read through them. :-)
Again this year I think that I will start with Charlotte Heywood, and see how far I get throughout the year. I am a voracious reader, but go through mood/genre/author phases. Some years I read more JAFF than others - but I constantly return to this group for the wonderful welcoming spirit and civil, kind conversation. Though I may not post much, I retreat here to relish the atmosphere and soothe the soul. Picture me as Margaret Dashwood curled up with a book under a library table, listening as others converse. :-)

Enjoy the journey, smell the roses. No rush, no pressure.

I just re-watched that one. Lovely way to meet Austen. So glad to have you back with our cozy group. I love how you expressed that. :)

Yay! Welcome back, Madenna! LOL, I'd say we all are in the same boat with that "small" obsession.
Looking forward to seeing you work through a pile of books while being the best mom. :)

Welcome back!!!!

Good to see you here again. Welcome.

@ 151: Sinai C. Welcome.
@ 156: Tabitha: enjoy your studies abroad.
@ 158: Lenora: we are always glad to see you return.
@ 161: Sam: welcome back. So sorry you are stuck at home and can only read. Hope your parents get better.
@ 166: Craftyhj: welcome Heather. I love Mr. Tilney... Henry not the General or the Captain.
@174: ladymurmur: so good to see your name returning.
@ 178: Madenna: hello there, welcome back.
Welcome to all and happy reading in this new year.

Anyway, it's lovely to see so many of my GR friends here. I'm aiming for 200 JAFF reads in 2022. I'll try to lurk less and post here more this year. I'm also hoping to get back to reviewing a little more. Just didn't have the right mindset through most of 2021 - especially the end of the year!

Woohoo, that is fabulous news, Debbie! Yay to have you free and clear. Look forward to having you joining and reading with us as usual. Great goals to hit two hundred and get back into your reviews.

Phew!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome back!!!

Pea-sized spot of Stage I cancer first detected on my annual mammogram - could not be felt on physical exam. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy two days before Christmas after multiple studies over the preceding weeks (additional mammograms, MRI, ultrasounds, and needle biopsy). Been waiting on the pathology to confirm there's no cancer in my lymph node system, which I just learned was negative, to my huge relief! I've got some radiation therapy ahead of me to deter recurrence but probably no chemo.
Thank you so much to everyone who did see my post last year and responded with prayer and messages of encouragement.
Ladies, ALWAYS get your mammogram regularly as recommended by your health provider! I have no known family history of breast cancer and have zero risk factors. My experience would have been SO much worse if I hadn't been diligent about getting mine on schedule.

Debbie-that is wonderful news! May your complete health continue from here on out!

Wow!

I am just catching up and congrats on the excellent news.

The intro: I'm Rachel! (hi!) During the week I work for the National Park Service- so if you ever have questions about your national parks, I'm your girl! I have a 6yo little boy (who is named after a glacier) and a husband who works in wildland fire mitigation (yes, we are those outdoorsy people).
The update: This year I was diagnosed with dysautonomia, which was a blow to my lifestyle in a big way. The silver lining- needing more time at home with my feet up means more time for reading!
Why I love JAFF: I have to sleep 10 hours a day (trust me, its not as luxurious as it sounds), so the rest of my time is allocated carefully. Plus, I work in policy for the federal government, so in my free time I want to be able to pick up a book that is easy for me to get into (knowing the characters and the cannon shortcuts the learning curve) and it never ever remotely resembles work.
So I'm here for the convos, the recommendations, and the community.
Happy January all!
