Ayacchi | 1730 comments My sites are still flexible, I'll let the monthly challenge, group read, and toppler decide it for me.

Btw, I wanna ask for ruling (forgive my poor comprehension. I feel like I've ever asked this before). It is said that we may combine yearly challenge with monthly, as well as group read, toppler, and buddy.
Like, monthly + yearly = ✔
But more than 2 tasks like, monthly + group /toppler + yearly = ✘ ?

message 152: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments You can combine anything you want Aya, even for more than 2 tasks :)

Combining group reads with challenges and topplers was always allowed. The only thing that wasn't allowed was reading the same book for the monthly challenge AND yearly challenge. But that restriction has been lifted now.

message 153: by Ayacchi (new)

Ayacchi | 1730 comments Oh wow! That may save many books!! Thanks Peggy, I'll try to remember the rule this time!

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, theoretically you could find the perfect book that works for all 4 activities at once. Quite a challenge I think though!

That would be impressive. :)

Sharon Hopper | 2435 comments Question: I found a book showing a creature whose bite looks very painful. (Site24) The edition I purchased shows a very clear picture on the cover of the animal with teeth bared and quite ferocious looking. However, when I look at the listing on Goodreads (I checked all editions), it shows a different cover. On that cover, there is a small picture of the beast and it is in profile and you cannot see his teeth or mouth. What to do?

Harvest Moon
Vs.

Dawn (caveatlector) | 1796 comments Not sure if it helps but I added the paperback version of the book to Goodreads with the cover that Amazon has.

Harvest Moon by J.D. Oliva

I have 5. :) I think it may be a good thing that I had so many challenge books to finish for this year because I've had no time to dwell on the fact that I can't start next year's reads yet. lol

message 166: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (wanda71) I need some clarification. After Badge #1 more side trips are required. Do we have to make our own or may we use some of the others that have been composed by participants?

You may use the same site as someone else, but you have to write your own tasks.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Janice, question about reporting for badges because I like to do it correct in my own thread so that I only need to copy/paste to the reporting thread once I'm done..

You ask us to report in numerological order. Do you mean if I read sites 8, 12, 16 and 29 that I report them per site in that order? Or do you prefer a chronological order of books read (1 - site 29 souvenir; 2 - site 12, location etc.)?

I'm thinking the first but want to make sure.. thanks :)

Sites in order, please.

message 171: by Marie (UK) (new)

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 2298 comments I think i have completely misunderstood the challenge - I thought i had to do sites in order so site 1 then 2 then 3 but is it just that i have to complete one site before moving on to another? so i could start with Site 7 and go back to 1 later

message 172: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, for the first badge you have to pick 4 sites (and make a side trip). In total you read 5x 3 = 15 books. Those 15 books you can read in any order, but you can't read books for badge 2 while you're working on badge 1.

Hey Marie,
I believe you must complete the badges in order, the sites for the badge need not be sequential. The tasks may be completed in any order. Rule 12 explains it.
The reporting of sites in the Request Badges thread must be numerically ordered.

For example, for my 1st Badge, I chose Site 11, 22, 2, 1, and a Side Trip. The chosen 15 tasks can be read in any order. When I request the badge, I should order them 1, 2, 11, 22, and Side Trip.

Sharon Hopper | 2435 comments I thought I read somewhere, but can’t find it…

When posting a book read that requires something on the cover (such as 75% red, or big eyes),should we post just the link to the book read or the book read and a link to the cover as well?

If you are reading a task which refers to the cover, you need to make sure you link the book cover as well. Helps Janice verify.

Eg:
Large bird on the cover
See What I Have Done See What I Have Done by Sarah Schmidt

message 181: by Nancy H (new)

Nancy H | 771 comments I have a question about Site #14, Souvenir book. It says 'epistolary style'. Does the whole book have to be in letter form? I read Letters from Paris, and the letters move the plot along but there is regular text there, too, to fill in the whole story. I wasn't sure if this would count or not.

Yes, I think that would be acceptable.

message 183: by Nancy H (new)

Nancy H | 771 comments Quick question: do we list our side trip on our thread to show you what we have chosen? I am ready to do my side trip books but want to make sure my categories are all okay first.

message 184: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Yes, please list them on your personal thread, and when reporting books for them refer either by linking the message or giving the message number so that I can easily verify. Thanks

message 185: by Kira (new)

Kira (kiraa18) | 654 comments Hi! Would this The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde work for photo on the cover?

message 186: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Hi Kira. Just quickly as I crash:
Each site has a thread set up with questions specific to those tasks in there. If you have a look at the relevant thread for that site in this folder - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group... - you may already be able to see what has and hasn't already been approved and therefore make an determination about what is allowed from that. If not, please post your question in that thread so the next person can do the first step.

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Kira wrote: "Hi! Would this The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde work for photo on the cover?"

After doing a bit of sleuthing, this is for your side-trip? I'm going to say no, mainly because the picture on the cover is a painting and not a photograph.

Your original choice of Two Can Keep a Secret fits the task criteria much better.

message 188: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Burger (tammyburger) | 809 comments As I get ready to finish Badge 1, I have a question about Badge 2. Maybe it's already been answered in this discussion - I didn't look all the way through. Badge 1 we needed to read 4 sites and 1 site trip. For Badge 2 we need 6 sites and 1 site trip. Is this 2 additional sites from badge 1 or 6 new sites? Yes, I can be an overthinker. Thanks.

message 189: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Hey Tammy, I believe that it is 6 new sites, and a new side trip

message 190: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Badge 2 is 7 sites: 6 road side attractions & 1 side trip for a total of 21 books. Yes, each badge increases the number of sites/books. You can't reuse the sites you used for badge 1.

message 191: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Burger (tammyburger) | 809 comments Thank you for the clarification. That’s what I thought.

message 192: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments I have an odd question . . . I know that it says in the rules one book one task, but what if it is a re-read? I read The Guncle for the April Group Read and used it for Site 36 - About. But, now my library book club is reading the same book for its June read. Can I use the re-read for another task, or is it a one and done?

message 193: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Ummm. When I first read that, I thought maybe it was a reread from another year. But, if it's a reread within this challenge.... my instinct is to say no. I think it could open a whole can of worms.

message 194: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments No problem Janice, but I just had to ask.

message 195: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments It's a good question and one I should have considered earlier.

I hadn't either. A friend sent the picture to me.

Janice (jamasc) | 60035 comments Oooh, I might have to use that for Badge 4. I'll never finish it this year, but I could for my leftover stew in 2023. I googled it, and it's the Golden Bridge Cầu Vàng in Vietnam.
