An excellent twist on the Faust myth, this book is beautifully written and will keep you guessing right to the end. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Just be careful what you wish for!
I enjoyed this book. There were so many things the author could have told us about in the 300 years that Addie lived, but she stuck with a very small sampling and I appreciated that.
Finished reading the book this evening, and surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed. Moving between timelines didn’t bother me in the least (I read it annoyed other readers) and kept the story lively.
I liked the book a lot, specially the second half of it. The first half seemed a bit dragged with going back and forth in time so much, since it made both stories (past and present) advance more slowly. However, in the second half of the book, this same thing helps the plot advance, and i liked it a lot. I only wish that we got to know more about Luc earlier in the story in the same way we do at the end, so that the first half wasn't so dry. While i was expecting more fantastical elements, it was a good book! I gave it 3.5 stars but had it not been for the expectations i had before reading it (i heard much about the book, and thought the story would go a different way) i would have given it 4 stars
I finished this last night and absolutely loved it, 5 stars. The beautiful writing stood out the most to me. So many sentences or paragraphs that I loved and reread and marked. I really enjoyed the way the story was structured, loved the characters, and teared up a few times near the end. This one was definitely worth the hype as far as I’m concerned.
This came as a breath of fresh after the two books I last read, and boy, did I enjoy it. I wasn't expecting anything, as I had no clue what the book was about, and was pleasantly surprised. The narrative structure didn't bother me at all, it only took a few chapters for me to understand the different POV and to actually anticipate it. Luc and Addie's interaction was by far my favorite part of the book, the intense dance they played made me speed through the book to get to the ending of it. All in all, love it and definitely recommend it.
