Capn | 3506 comments Hello! SamSpayedPI helped me link back a Japanese translation of a book to the original English in very short order, and I realised then that there must be much I do not know about the available infrastructure....

Before anyone even thinks to utter the term "WorldCat", let me be very clear that in this regard it has been less than useless! I need an alternative!

I recently found a link to a UNESCO database which seemed promising, but then the UNESCO site was "under maintenance".

So here is what I am trying to do: I would like to find all of the foreign-language translations out there (and their titles) of every Mabel Esther Allan (aka Jean Estoril, Priscilla Hagon, Anne Pilgrim) book that have ever been published. (Don't ask why - there is no reason, other than I think it should be done!).

I have been trying my best via GoogleTranslate to find library catalogues in each likely European language, and this occasionally yields results. But it is very slow going, and hugely error-prone (I often know about a title they don't seem to be aware of!). And it gets trickier with different alphabets (in my case now, Korean!).

I also just search for "second hand books online" using GoogleTranslate to get me into the world of Finnish books online, for example. But obviously, girl's stories from the 50s-70s are not super prevalent as they are relatively scarce now.

WorldCat has been worse than useless in this search. For books that have 3 translations, they list none. The database doesn't even appear to have any of the German or French translations, which are abundant.

If anyone has any good advice for me, I would be most grateful! I don't know if there is a way to trace copyrights...?

Many thanks for your assistance! :)
