Nataliya | 79 comments I guess we end with Barbarotti unsure how he’s going to deal with the whole motive part. I get it — the last thing that family needs after everything they’ve been through is aunt/nephew incest on top of it all. But I suppose this may come up when Kristina has her trial, so I’m not sure how much he could hush it even if he made that choice. And it seems that Leif is aware of Kristoffer’s involvement in Jakob’s death, so for all we know that cat may be out of the bag already.

I assume body location will come up eventually as Kristina is not going anywhere.

What I found interesting is that police detectives were not quite useful in this book. I’m used to the stories where a brilliant investigator manages to piece things together. Here we get probably a more realistic picture — a case that takes ages, leads that were missed, lucky break coming from elsewhere (dead woman’s freezer, a guy accidentally letting the info slip to Rosemary) and a bit of supernatural feel (Ebba getting that feeling that something is wrong with Kristoffer, Henrik’s “ghost” suggesting the importance of that lead to his brother, etc).

Nataliya | 79 comments I was actually surprised how irrelevant the entire investigation was. Hermanssons pretty much did everything on their own, Barbarotti just was needed for the arrest.

I wonder if he plays more of a role in the sequels.

Nataliya | 79 comments That’s right! And I am very curious :)

Nataliya | 79 comments That would be great.

Nat K (natnoir) | 155 comments The 🐢 has landed. I finished! Loved it.

Loved that the ending is open to interpretation. My gut says Barbarotti won't reveal what he's learnt from Kristina. As it adds no value to the case/s, which are now effectively solved anyway. The families have suffered more than enough. Adding incest to the mix only poisons the waters further.

Agree that this is unlike any other crime novel I've read as it's not your typical police procedural. In some respects they're secondary to the storyline, which continues without them. Cleverly done. Great writing.

Thanks for sticking with me peeps. I know I was slow finishing this one. I'll be like Usain Bolt ⚡ for the next 😃

That's a big yes from me, would love to continue with the series.

Nataliya | 79 comments But even if Barbarotti keeps quit, Kristoffer may let it slip. Too many people now know what happened for it to reliably be a secret. I think it will come up at some point, as much as I hope it wouldn’t for the sake of what’s left of that family.

It would be interesting to see if Barbarotti's decision to keep quiet (which I think he'll do) will come up in a later book? Or if any of the Hermansson/Grundts will turn up. It's a small town they all live in.

Nataliya | 79 comments That’s true, it’s a small town - so maybe we’ll get some of the answers. I suppose there’s only one way to find out :)
