A bunch of teenagers "go bush" (camping) and when they get back they find their world has changed. They have been invaded by a foreign enemy. (Not a spoiler, that's all in the description.) So they figure out how to be absolutely genius at everything and fight against the invaders with Deus Ex Machina around every corner. And they do it with these beyond conversational vocabulary throwing out words like bitumen and galvanized like people actually speak those words aloud. Flawed though it is, it was also really entertaining and a cliffhanger at every ending, so I back to back listened to books 1-4. After book 4 I needed a break because they do get repetitive, however, I will finish the series.

Omg, I loved these books when I was a teenager. It's been forever since I thought about them. I thought they were so gritty and realistic at the time, though it sounds like they might not hold up as much as I would like them to. Despite the cliffhangers, I don't think I ever finished the series. Maybe I'll have to revisit them one day.
