Hi Berengaria,This sounds interesting and I'd like to give it a try even though I am far from fluent in any other language.
Dave
Thank you for your invitation to this group, Berengaria. Having German as mother tongue, I plan to read books in English, Polish, Russian, and Dutch as a regular goal and additionally French and Italian as a stretch goal. I am also learning Spanish, Hebrew and Jiddish, but still at basic level, not advanced enough for regular reading.

OK, count me in. Let's see if I can set myself a SMART goal (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, time-oriented) for 2022. How about this - 2 easy readers in each of German and Spanish plus 1 full adult novel in French (I'm thinking something reasonably light such as a French translation of an Agatha Christie mystery or a thriller from one of my go-to favourites)
If I actually manage that then I can think about a similar novel in German or Spanish but that's definitely on the outside limits of my skills for the moment.

Hi Berengaria and thanks for the invite! I wouldn't have considered it, but on second thoughts, why not? I'm going to try and read a book in German and a book in Russian (although they may be children's books or easy readers...). And, who knows, I may even try to write the review in the book's language (with a little help from Google translate... he he...). So, yes, an excellent idea, and thanks for suggesting it!☺☺
Well, I read four out of five of the short stories in PRINTEMPS ET AUTRES SAISONS and I decided that I just couldn't bear the idea of plowing through the fifth one. Despite the beauty of the writing and the fact that it was undoubtedly helping my French reading skills, the writing was just too repetitive AND, frankly, I was a little grossed out! I became convinced that this guy has a real thing for young girls of colour. I'm shocked that this author actually won a Nobel Prize for literature in 2008.
Anyone else with thoughts on this author?
Here's the link to the review that I wrote in French:

Perhaps the French native speakers could help me out with a correction or two if I made any gross errors. Thanks in advance.
And, now I'm still waiting on delivery of Agatha Christie's La Meurtre de Roger Ackroyd

We have a chat going on another thread in this profile. If you'd like to keep us up to date on your progress and see where others doing the challenge are with their reading (highly recommended) then hop over and introduce yourself. We have a number of people with a goal for French this year (myself included) but no one else with Arabic.
Hi, I'm joining late. I want to go back over book 1 and book 2 for learning Korean from sejong institute, along with the 1St workbook and its handouts, then I'll be moving on to two books, 안녕 자두야 과학일기 - 2 똥과 방귀, and 내 어머니 이야기 1부, I might attempt 아메리카노 엑소더스 - 면학의 희생양 at the end of the year, but I doubt I'll be able to read and enjoy it at my current reading level.

That's great Fatima! Hope over to our chat (on this same profile) so you can interact with the rest of the group. I'll add you to the list.

If you post this message to the chat, everybody else will be able to see it.
