Why in the hell does this type of story seem to recur every couple of months? How stupid are these people?

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to go on record as saying, while I hope people don't die while breaking into zoos and/or climbing into the animals' space, I hope the animals scare the living shit out of them.

Stephen (stephenT) Good heavens! What was this person thinking? I am with you,RA, no climbing into animal exposures.

message 3: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) IN prison they will live with a completely different kind of animal.

Sarah | 13814 comments I think it's just a step beyond the idiots who get out of their cars and walk up to wild animals at Yellowstone.

Stephen (stephenT) But Raccoons? What have we done to them?

message 6: by Félix (last edited Oct 06, 2009 10:48AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Taken habitat, Stephen. Haven't you noticed how whole families of them get slaughtered on the highways?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments There were raccoon attacks here, too, on pets. They happened after a new housing development went up where there used to be forested land.

So yes, we took their habitat, and now they're pissed.

message 8: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I fear it was garbage related, and perhaps a previous history. Larry may be onto something too, that she was frequently driving over one or the other of them far too frequently.

However, any person with a lick of sense knows you do not "shoo" away a pack of critters of any variety!

I am going with a theory that would be worthy of John Candy, RIP. What that is, I do not yet know.

As Bugs Bunny would say, "I hope you realize, this means war."

message 10: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm sure you'll let us know. ;)

message 11: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) It's the Raccoons who must now respond. We have declared war. Jackie will use her powers as the Queen of the Library to call upon the magical horsemen of Ploughedupspurs, and the six mages of Onehellalot, with the assistance of the Singers of the Seven Sacred Singing Songs.

That'll get 'em.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments But, I like raccoons, Stephen.

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) We just need to give them space. Oh, and make sure the garbage cans are securely locked up.

We can say that about almost all animals Larry.

message 15: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Can we at least keep the Singers of the Seven Sacred Singing Songs? :(

Félix (habitseven) Jim wrote: "We can say that about almost all animals Larry."

And some people.

Stephen (stephenT) If you'd read all my post 14 you'd know. (harumph) or something like that

message 20: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) Is anyone here well-versed in poetry?

I'm thinking of a poem that I thought was by Marianne Moore but it's strangely not anthologized in my anthologies (lol redundant) so maybe it's by another Marianne... but it's about groundhogs. Beavers, an animal like that. It's super famous and I can't remember it and I am feeling very frustrated right now.

message 21: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) I clearly need to work on my memory. It was Maxine Kumin.

Stephen (stephenT) Larry + Jim = Trouble

message 24: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I beg your pardon?

message 25: by Angie (new)

Angie (angabel) Misha, or maybe one day they'll tap on the window and ask, "Are you gonna finish that?"

We had a coon living in our wood pile. My dad was "keeping an eye on it" which means "treating it as a pet he spent hours watching with his binoculars" to make sure it didn't get any closer to the house. Luckily, our cats are indoor cats and that wasn't a problem, and eventually the coon left, to my dad's distress. I remember the day the coon left-- he even went outside to "check on it" and came back all sad-looking.

message 26: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Aw.

message 29: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) Larry, turn off your inner radio.

message 30: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) There's no switch.

message 31: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) A plug?

message 32: by Stephen (new)

Stephen (stephenT) I am full of Darvocet today, by prescription you suspicious people, and sense it not in my reach.

message 33: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) No plug.
