2022 Goldsmiths Prize speculation

A lot of books were held back, had their pub dates changed late last year, maybe it was one of those?
This year's shortlist announcement event has been advertised on Twitter, on 5th October. Isabel Waidner in conversation with M John Harrison, so not a lecture this time. I think I can get to this one.

Thanks! Have booked, hoping I can make itAny predictions from anyone - the Listopia seems to be mostly my suggestions
If they stick to the rules I can't as it was eligible last year. Although only by a few days (28 October vs 31 October cut off)
Yes that one surely should be there. It's on the list though.I'm after the usual books you've read but forgot to mention.
It would be quite funny if (as is almost a Goldsmith tradition) the shortlist includes books which made the Booker longlist but not shortlist given this year it will be announced with a Booker judge in the audience.
It seems like there's so much variation from year to year about what's considered innovative that it's hard to predict.
Certainly the first time I met any of you. I have booked a place and will be there unless it is a rail strike day.
It looks like the 5th is a rail and underground strike day so suspect attendance will be badly impacted.
And me I suspect - even the trains and tubes that run on strike days very unreliable - and it’s not an easy venue to get to at best of times Worth keeping an eye out though as I think it’s a partial strike
If only we knew someone who was friends with last year’s winner being interviewed who could ask her …. Over to you Paul
It isn't a tube strike - only a train strike. Whatever those are - apparently odd things that don't go underground, which service the sticks.Although unfortunately the Goldsmiths is outside of London, which likely explains it's bias as a prize towards non-London voices.
I would think the publishers would not be that interested in a relatively small prize like the Goldsmiths for a book this big (suspect they were hoping for Booker) and I also don’t see how it breaks the mould or extends the possibility of the novel form. But I may well be 100 percent wrong.
What made you think it might be entered and would fit the prize?
I’d prefer rescheduled as it’s usually informal enough for you to be able to chat with people. But I guess they can’t find another date to do it at short notice.
My one prediction is that I won’t achieve this year what I did last year of 3/6 of the shortlist in the first post on the thread, and one year even 4/6.Not least as of my two key picks one of the authors subsequently became a judge, and another, my predicted winner, hasn’t been published (and not clear it ever will be).
Paul Stanbridge’s novel and Poguemahome could be contenders though.
Time to catch the train to the venue
Still disappointed I won't be able to see the event. There was no way I could have got back from SE London on a rail strike day. Guessing the announcement will be around 8 pm as in previous years.
I am here but signal isn’t great and I need to nurse the battery for my Uber homeThe Goldsmiths judges has just done a bit of Republic of Consciousness trash talking - “they keep shortlisting Isabel but never giving them the prize”
Listening to M John Harrison talk about what he likes in a novel, I suspect he is #teamtreacle. Perhaps Seven Moons as well. Very much an enemy of causality and orientating the reader.

I’m delighted that she’s a judge for the Goldsmiths this year.
